Kentucky Senator Rand Paul made yet another appearance Monday with Tennessees Lamar Alexander, who is facing a Tea Party primary challenger. While considered one of the most moderate Republicans in the Senate, Alexander has been working in recent months to look more conservative.
Before anyone could ask, Alexander denied that he was trying to get political help from the Tea Party darling.
Were not here to endorse each other, he said, without prompting. Rand hasnt asked me to endorse me for the President of the United States, and I havent asked him to endorse me for the senate. Were here on business.
Specifically, Alexander said they were meeting with health care leaders to talk about what to replace Obamacare with if it gets repealed.
The last time Paul traveled to Nashville for a press conference with Alexander, they talked about protecting fishing rights below Corps of Engineer dams. Video of the two ended up in an Alexander campaign ad.
Asked Monday what he thinks of the implied endorsement, Senator Paul didnt really answer. He did say what he likes about Alexander.
While I am very strong on speaking out on issues, sometimes I dont have the ability to get things through and to actually get them into legislation, Paul said. I think [Alexander] was very successful getting that [Freedom to Fish Act] into legislation.
Senator Alexanders main challenger state representative Joe Carr of Rutherford County has been seeking out Tea Party support but has been unable to get endorsements from icons within the movement.
On Monday, Carr challenged Alexander to a debate. The two-term senator stopped short of declining, but he questioned whether it could be scheduled in a way to involve all seven candidates, which includes businessman George Flinn of Memphis and the Democrats in the race.
Would anybody learn anything from a debate among seven people like that? I debate every day on the floor of the senate, Alexander said.
He encouraged voters to read about his positions on the Internet or stop him in public.
Usually Im walking down the street and they can ask me, he said.
In my estimation, Rand is not a “Tea Party Darling”. I wouldn’t even give him the satisfaction of even looking at his name on a ballot, much less actually punch it.
Rand Paul is making sure that he gets the establishment money he needs for his reelection campaign in 2016. He is NOT a principled conservative.
Rand has been going down in my estimation monthly. This playing footsie with Alexander continues the free fall as far as I’m concerned.
Sarah is a tea party darling
The paul tandem are not conservatives. I think they are whacked, but that's my opinion.
I think the media intentionally connects him to Tea Party anything as a way to minimize the Tea Party sentiment as just kooky.
This is petty, I know, but every time I see him, I want to dump a bottle of shampoo on that greasy curly hair and douse him with a hose. I swear he reminds me that crazy Dem spokeswoman with the mayonnaise hair.
There’s a Rand Paul morphing into Eddie Haskell out there somewhere.
The more I see(and hear)Rand Paul,the LESS I want to buy a”Used Car”from him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rand Paul has gotten the whispers in the ear: support these people and we will support you!
And he’s a fool, because he’ll be betrayed by these people down the line.
He had me at ‘Freedom to fish’ ...
Another GOPee ‘Odd Couple.’
Oh boy.
I’d like to see it. I’ll do a search... Thanks
My primal urge is to run a big rake through that curly mop.
Rand is a crass opportunist.
Dead on accurate assessment of this weasel. I had high hopes for him but he jumped eagerly into bed with the timid as rabbits gope. He’s damaged goods just like the Republican brand and they have no one to blame but themselves. The only political entity that is more cowardly than the gope trash is the French government.
We would have been rid of Lamar years ago if term limits were mandated!
someone should make a two faced doll of lamar and rand.
