Ministers split on military response to teens’ killings

While Naftali Bennett urges major operation against Hamas, Moshe Ya’alon warns it would trigger all-out war

Government ministers argued bitterly Monday night about Israel’s proper response to the killing of three abducted teenagers whose bodies had been found that afternoon. While right-wing cabinet members called for an immediate and extensive operation to punish Hamas and severely damage the organization’s capabilities, as well as expanding settlement construction, others, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, did not want to rush to action and seemed to prefer a more measured response

After three hours, the cabinet session ended without conclusions. Another session was scheduled for Tuesday evening.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu usually goes for the measured response and does it on his own schedule and not an immediate knee-jerk action!

Israel is prepared, there is no need to contemplate a 'when' date, this is all politics and someone should nuke islam.

period.

War is coming and it would be over or half over by now if W had nuked Afghanistan.

I’d like to see a measured response: the number of terrorists they kill should be proportionate, so that those who support terrorism value the lives of the dead terrorists as much as the Israelis value the lives of the dead civilians. In other words, they should kill every terrorist in every known terrorist training camp, for starters.

If for no other reason than Israel is just as rebellious and unrepentant as Ishmael ... yeah ... you’re probably right.

Considering that Israel is the superpower of the Middle East, and they could go all-out by rights, yet, they do it in a measured manner.

Another world war is coming, not a matter of if, but when.

Here’s the reason ... Israel is a modern democratic state of the “West” (in culture and government) and they are a “law-abiding state”.

Israel doesn’t do WAR CRIMES - even though Israel’s enemies have accused it of doing that very thing to the Palestinians. That happens to be nothing but PROPAGANDA by Israel’s enemies!

This is something to get cleared up here ... In Israel’s own laws they are committed to protecting all religious rights and religious sites - Muslims, Christians or Jews equally. Israel is the ONLY COUNTRY in the Middle East so committed to doing so.

Also, as part of the original “Palestine Mandate” from the League of Nations, the religious rights of all religious groups were designated to be protected. When Israel declared independence in 1948” and the war started, Israel urged all the Arabs to NOT FLEE because they were not going to harm them. Israel said they wanted them as citizens in the new country.

Right now, the civil and voting rights of all Arabs in Israel (they are full fledged citizens) are FULLY PROTECTED as much as any Jewish citizen. The Arabs have their own legislators in the Knesset. Also, there is an Arab who is on Israel’s Supreme Court. The Arab population of Israel is 20%.

Israel is ABSOLUTELY COMMITTED to preserving the religious rights and shrines of all citizens in Israel!

THIS IS THE TRUE ISRAEL ... not some “comic book character” that some people “want Israel to be” when they are posting online!

Lost in the conversation is the fact that one of these kids was an American citizen. To me, this requires a punitive, retaliatory response from the US.

Once again, the first duty of the President is to protect our citizens. Anything short of a punitive response is abdicating this duty, and inviting further transgressions against our citizens, IMHO.

If it were Afghanistan or Iraq or Libya, that may be one thing, but since it’s on land that Israel controls militarily - you’re not going to find the USA militarily walking over Israel’s control of the area,

Besides that, I can guarantee you that while Congress will overwhelmingly support Israel in how it knows to handle its affairs - they would not put up with the USA (as in “Obama”) walking all over Israel’s militarily controlled areas!

a secular .. and intelligent reply, but Israel is supposed to be a religious state rather than a political one.

The fact is, and remains .. the Hebrew is God's chosen people and THAT is the crux of the whole matter.

Plus if my memory serves me correct, before 1967, when Jerusalem, both old and new were reunited, when Jordan took control of the old city at the time first during Israel’s independence, they controled the shrines and any non-Muslim shrines were not treated well. For this reason, Israel keeps this in mind and takes care of and allows pilgrimages to, the Jewish, Christian, and Muslim shrines.

No, Israel was not formed in 1948 as a religious state - as in a Theocracy. You must be thinking about the Old Testament in the Bible ... :-) ...

It was formed as the Homeland for the Jews, and we should definitely support them in that.

Of course ... I went right past the 1948 agreement and reverted to historical Israel ... from ... the beginning.

A political agreement in no way negates the reality of God's promises and judgements on ANY nation.

America would be wise to turn back to God and stop trying to 'fix' things politically.

The “promises of God” (in regards to Israel being fully in the land) will not happen until the return of the Messiah of Israel,

In the meantime, we support Israel in maintaining it as “the homeland for the Jews” which means not allowing all that territory to be incorporated into Israel proper and thus change the demographic to make it an ARAB STATE.

That’s why Israel wants the creation of a Palestinian state - and why I currently support Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in making that Palestinian state.

Agreed.

Yes, I wasn’t referring to a military response, boots on the ground etc. Surely there are ways to do them harm, in some way, and frame it unabashedly in punitive terms. One of the boys was an American citizen, and somehow it doesn’t sit well with me that since Israel will assuredly retaliate, somehow that exempts us from any response.

Hmmm let’s see. Usually when there is a prisoner swap... it’s like one Israeli soldier for 3000 prisoners...

So, the reverse should be true. You kill three of ours... then the proportionate response is 9000 dead Muslims.
