That's no excuse, though. It was Rush's responsibility to say no, pick someone else. Just as it would have been up to her to talk him out of it, had he been the one who wanted John to perform. Loyalty to God comes first. But I don't know how religious Rush is, if at all.

I just googled that, but all that comes up is he said Jesus would approve of homosexual ‘mirages’. Can you post a link about Elton John saying Jesus was homosexual?

I can’t think of an excuse for that. Guess that’s why homosexuals shouldn’t be scout leaders. One thing, though. With homosexuality becoming more accepted, boys won’t be afraid anymore to let others know when they’ve been molested. Wonder how high the numbers of molested boys wlll go?

As far as I can tell it was a kind of tongue-in-cheek nickname based on 50’s American westerns whose characters had names like “Pecos Bill” Or “Amarillo Pete”. Elton is the name of a small town in England, hence “Elton John”. His real name is Reginald Dwight.

I did a FR search and pulled up a few threads. If you use keyword "Elton John", you'll find that he made the remark before Rush asked him to play.

The name “Elton John” was in homage to saxophonist Elton Dean and Blues singer Long John Baldry.
