Have you been following the news about Obamacare? The Affordable Care Act has receded from the front page, but information about how its going keeps coming in and almost all the news is good. Indeed, health reform has been on a roll ever since March, when it became clear that enrollment would surpass expectations despite the teething problems of the federal website.
Whats interesting about this success story is that it has been accompanied at every step by cries of impending disaster. At this point, by my reckoning, the enemies of health reform are 0 for 6. That is, they made at least six distinct predictions about how Obamacare would fail every one of which turned out to be wrong.
To err is human, wrote Seneca. To persist is diabolical. Everyone makes incorrect predictions. But to be that consistently, grossly wrong takes special effort. So whats this all about?
Many readers wont be surprised by the answer: Its about politics and ideology, not analysis. But while this observation isnt particularly startling, its worth pointing out just how completely ideology has trumped evidence in the health policy debate.
And Im not just talking about the politicians; Im talking about the wonks. Its remarkable how many supposed experts on health care made claims about Obamacare that were clearly unsupportable. For example, remember rate shock? Last fall, when we got our first information about insurance premiums, conservative health care analysts raced to claim that consumers were facing a huge increase in their expenses. It was obvious, even at the time, that these claims were misleading; we now know that the great majority of Americans buying insurance through the new exchanges are getting coverage quite cheaply.

Says the Obamacare exempt goon.
I see that the Slimes is up to its usual B/S again.
“great majority of Americans buying insurance through the new exchanges are getting coverage quite cheaply”
conveniently not noting this is the net cost AFTER SUBSIDIES.
Paul Krugman is certifiable.
Krugman is such a hopelessly deranged little man.
Krugman: “We’ve heard scare stories about how Obamacare works in practice. That premiums are going up and a little girl who lost her cardiologist. These stories are false.”
If doctors/hospitals refuse to take Obamacare insurance, then what good does it do?
(Other than making Emergency Rooms -- that can't refuse anyone -- even more of a mess than they were before Obamacare. http://www.13wmaz.com/story/news/nation/2014/06/08/more-patients-er-obamacare/10197793/ )
I’m relieved to hear that the premium for my ‘compliant’ plan didn’t triple.
Obamacare is gone from the headlines because the Coward Party has signed off on it now.
When more and more people start getting hit with cancellations and increased costs from the IRS, they’ll be wondering where the “Republican” party are.
Gone to K street with their heads up the butts of the lobbyists, that’s where.
>> and almost all the news is good
The rodent is an asshat. Major rate hikes in the pipes.
Go pound sand, rodent asshat!
I still remember the times years ago where Bill O’Reilly and Krugman were guests on another talk show and Krugman tried a snide remark and O’R yelled at him. For the balance of the segment, Krugman was so intimidated, slouching, looking very small, and his hands were literally trembling.
No doubt in my mind he wet himself and soiled his BVDs.
If you enjoy laughing at him, James Taranto in the Wall Street Journal cleans Krugman's clock about three times per week:
Krug needs a 2x4 upside his head.
I work as a nurse. We had a patient who had to have Obamacare as she lost her job.
Then she had to have a surgery. She was brought to our hospital because of ACA, we take it, her other Dr. does not.
So she lost her usual surgeon, who has been managing her for years surgically for her chronic diabetic ulcers to her foot. He’s done a good job.
The new guy, our guy, is backlogged with surgeries. He could not get to her for a 4 or 5 days to do the surgery, whereas her other Doctor always took her into surgery the day after admittance to the other hospital. So she had to wait on his schedule in our hospital, getting antibiotics and having the schedule for surgery cancelled twice and rescheduled.
She’s ‘not happy’ with the ACA, I can tell you that, boy.
America was founded in liberty. Is that ideological? You bet. Your "analysis" is tiny compared the truths of our founding.
