This is pretty bizarre - even for the Balkans.
Bosnian Serbs unveiled a statue yesterday honoring Gavrilo Princip, the teenager who pulled the trigger in Sarajevo 100 years ago today killing Archduke Ferdinand - heir to the throne of the Hapsburg Empire - and his wife. The event touched off a series of blunders, misjudgements, and misadventures that culminated in the great powers stumbling into a war that few of them wanted and none could foresee the consequences for.
By the time the dust settled in November, 1918, the Hapsburg and Ottoman Empires had disintegrated, Russia had gone Communist, and Germany, Great Britain, and France had been bled white. Nearly 40 million died, both soldiers and non-combatants. Ands yet, the man who is largely responsible for starting the conflict is honored as a hero?
You have to be pretty obtuse to ignore the massive bloodletting and celebrate the national impulses that drove Princip and his Clown Car Posse of hapless conspirators to carry out their shocking murders.
Marking the eve of the centennial of the beginning of World War I, Bosnian Serbs on Friday unveiled a monument in Sarajevo to the man who ignited the war by assassinating the Austro-Hungarian crown prince on June 28, 1914.
At the other end of the city, the Vienna Philharmonic orchestra was rehearsing for Saturdays grand EU-sponsored performance, planned as a symbolic start of a new century of peace at the place where decades of war in Europe started 100 years ago.

Typical of the Serbs.
One for King of Great Britain, the other for the Kaiser of the German Empire.
We stupid Europeans have been doing this crap for 4,000 Years.
As this song proves its a waste to what they are facing now.

To save Europe during the Two World Wars they had to call on their Expelled sons that were sent to America, Canada, Australia, New Zealand or South Africa to save them.
Ping to Post 3 Dearest yldstrk!
WWI was the great self-destructive horror of Western Civilization from which neither the West nor Christianity have ever recovered. To celebrate the humanoid monster that started it is the depth of obscenity.
Its as if the Romans erected a statue of Attila the Hun That man began the destruction of European civilization.
“... their Expelled sons that were sent to America...”
KC_Lion, I don’t think the Americans were “sxpelled” from Great Britain...It was the other way around...The Revolutionary War expelled Great Britain from the United States of America...
BTW, I am Ani-Yun-Wiya and Scots/Irish...(Look it up if you don’t know)
If the Christian West didn’t recover from the first war, it certainly didn’t recover from the second which was a direct result of the first. How many millions did Princip kill with those two shots?
And the irony is the Ferdinand was far from being an oppressor of the Balkan peoples. He would have given them expanded rights and representation as Emperor.
Remember Australia started out as a Penal Colony.

The message of the song is nearly obscured by the musicians jumping around like a bunch of pre-teen rock-n-roll band wannabees in daddy’s garage. Hopefully someone will dump the horrid visuals and replace it with archival footage.
Thank you so much KC_Lion
USA: BACK-2-BACK WORLD WAR WINNERS!!!
Yes, Australia began as a penal colony with “expelled” British criminals...and, just as Canada, remains in close cousinship with Great Britain...
The United States, as I previously said, began with people wanting something different than a monarchy.
They achieved this through revolution and cast out the monarchy of Great Britain.
Great Britain did NOT “expell sons” to America...America expelled Great Britain.
“... for Australia bound, if we didn’t all drown, the marks of our fetters we carried...”

What began as a religious war, kind of like the Crimean war.
Orthodox assassinates Catholic. Orthodox Serbs feel oppressed, call on Mother Russia for help. Russia mobilizes, Germany declares war on Russia.
And the grandchildren of Queen Victoria slug it out with each other, and manage to get the USA involved, even though Woodrow Wilson was re-elected on a platform of “HE KEPT US OUT OF WAR!”
No. Attila the Hun was really far preferable to this assassin. Atilla has been given a bad rap by historians.
USA: BACK-2-BACK WORLD WAR WINNERS!!!
Wait!!
Think about it. We did not win WWI: just tipped the balance a bit at the very end. And when one considers the result, we surely did not attain our stated goal: a world safe for democracy. Instead, out of WWI came the Soviet Union, and eventually Hitler. Some victory!
We clearly lost WWII. The winner was Stalin, who conquered Eastern Europe, and just a few years later the communists took over China, the largest country in the world. We may have fought well, but we certainly did not win that war.
The United States has not won a major war since the Spanish-American War, which was probably totally unnecessary, anyway. We did win the mini-war in Antigua under Reagan, which was short enough that we could hold out for the victory.
It may come as a shock, but we are not a war-winning country. Certainly not now!!
The clearest victory we ever had was in the war with Mexico. Then we were out-numbered in every single battle, and yet did not lose a single one. But in todays comparison, we cannot even get the Mexicans to release a lone American soldier from jail. We let them overfly our border, and they invade by the millions. We are not even alert enough to stop large busses of illegal immigrants from calmly driving across the boarder full of whole families of illegal aliens. We don’t even have any effective military presence, and not even effective border agents.
And our rulers are mostly jerks.
So please spare me the rah-rah stuff.
