JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
Ridgeland police chief Jimmy Houston confirms that Attorney Mark Mayfield has been found dead at his home in the Bridgewater subdivision.
We're told he suffered a gunshot wound.
It is being investigated as a suicide.
In May, Mayfield was arrested and charged with conspiracy in relation to a political scandal.
The 28-year-old blogger, Clayton Kelly, allegedly went into a nursing home and photographed the bedridden wife of Republican U.S. Senator Thad Cochran without permission and posted an image online as part of an anti-Cochran video.
It's not clear the exact role that Mayfield played in obtaining or spreading the photo.
Mayfield was a Board member of the Central MS Tea Party.

I wonder how far away the gun was from the body???
What was the name of that park??? “Fort Marcie Park”???
Something like that...
This guy was being charged with conspiracy - to do what criminal act?
Like you say, why haven’t the paparazzi been charged with anything?
The guy who allegedly shot himself did the great crime of telling where Cochran’s wife’s room was; he knew because his mother used to live the same place.
Yes, this plan was stupid and hurtful, but what is the crime? Conspiracy to do what crime?
Rommel took poison while in the staff car that had brought the two Nazi officers, to save his family from the meat hooks.
Hitler used a Walther PPK to off his own sorry self.
Anyway, this suicide investigation smells. As noted, it’s initially a murder investigation until evidence shows otherwise, such as the victim having shot himself five times in the back of the head using a bolt action rifle.
No, it’s only going to increase the speculation.
Suicide as the ultimate form of escape? Many questions remain.
“Apparently he was arrested by a swat team at his office, made a spectacular of, lost clients over it. Most that knew him said he was an honorable, decent man. Barbours machine in Madison ruined his life with these accusations. Ran his picture in ads for Cochran on TV. Just awful stuff.”

Mississippi is very driven by appearances and ‘reputation’. Actual substance is almost irrelevant. If the hivemind rejects you, you are publicly nothing and many individuals buy into it about themselves if shunned. I am not surprised by a suicide following a public humiliation like that. I am very skeptical about murder. Murder requires an absolute lack of scruples and a distinct level of grit and boldness. The machine has the former, but lacks the last two qualities.
Hillary Clinton, did you show Thad how to make murder look like suicide?
“The attack was meant to denigrate Cochran, and the wife was ‘collateral damage’.
Well, that makes it OK then! After all, the ends justifies the means, right? Anyone who thinks this is a way to help his candidate should himself be institutionalized. And this guy will be, just a different kind of institution.
Take a good look, folks. This is how your future President will perform under mild pressure.
Perfect post!
Then there were the $200,000 bonds for each one charged with this bogus charge. WHAT???? I thought that a very good part of the civil rights movement of the 1950s and 1960s was to demonstrate that the constitution applies even in MISSISSIPPI. Did they suspect the lawyer to flee the jurisdiction, abandon his practice, his wife, his children, his home, his apparently upstanding reputation in the community? Or, if he really HAD to be arrested, why was he not released on a promise to appear? Because Haley Boss Hogg Barbour said so? Or Thad Cockroach?
REMEMBER MISSISSIPPI now and forever.
