Catfish John - Johnny Russell or Dickey Lee
Do the Clam - Elvis
Take Him Fishin’ - Tex Ritter
“Yellow-Backed Fly” written by Steve Martin and performed by him and The Steep Canyon Rangers. Woody Pratt does lead vocals. Reminds me of Sal Valentino of The Beau Brummels. Great song about stalking a trout.
“I go at six am, quiet as a hymn.
Gonna catch old Jim with the yellow-backed fly.
Twenty inches long, measured with a stick.
He’s old Jim but to me he’s Moby Dick.”
Reminds me of my late Grandparents...one of these days.

Up this morning, before the sun
Fixed me some coffee and a honey bun
Jumped in my pickup, gave her the gas
I'm goin' out to catch a five pound bass
Down by the lake side just off the ramp
All them people sleeping in their fishing camp
Some out in the pup tents, some out on the grass
They all be dreaming 'bout that five pound bass
The early bird he always gets his worm
Me, I always get my wish
When you're talking 'bout that five pound bass son
The early worm he gets the fish
Jumped in my john boat, I stow my gear
I fire her up and when I am in the clear
I sail across that water, as smooth as glass
Ready, here I come you five pound bass
I find a perfect spot, some old dead trees
Back in a canyon where you can't feel no breeze
I tie my lure, I make my cast
It's breakfast time, you five pound bass
That old sun is rising, that water is clear
I watch my lure as it's flying through the air
I see a ripple... I hear a splash
Lord have mercy, it's a five pound bass!
My children are hungry, my dog needs a bone.
I'm out of a job now, so I'm just drivin' home.
An hour after sundown, when what to my delight,
There's five pounds of possum in my headlights tonight.
cho: There's five pounds of possum in my headlights tonight.
If I can just run him over, every thing will be all right.
We'll have some possum gravy, oh what a beautiful sight;
There's five pounds of possum in my headlights tonight.
Won't have to clean no chicken, won't have to open no cans.
Just a little bit closer, and I'll have him in my hands.
I think the time has come now, to go from "dim" to "bright."
There's five pounds of possum in my headlights tonight.
Good morning, Everyone.
Good morning to our
Military, our Allies, and their families.
Woo Hoo, there's Connie Girl.
Thanks for preparing the Canteen
for todays activities.
Morning starting off badly.
First, the traffic was at a stand-still when I got on 295 into DC.
There was an accident on my exit
(I found out when I finally got there)
and they had four/five lanes of traffic
(this is the merge area coming from MD & VA) down to one lane.
Then, I finally get into the office and the email is down.
Bossman had an urgent request yesterday before I left,
so I need to make sure it got done and is in the system.
Gonna have to post and run.
Got lots to do before I leave since I'll be on mini-vacation next week.
No worries...I'll be checking in during the week.
Counting on you guyz/galz to keep the Canteen running and clean :)
Chat up the military and/or their families.
Remember, the Canteen is ALWAYS
Come in and sit for a while.
There's always plenty of coffee, tea
pancakes, conversation, silliness,
and plain old BS
