Tea party leader: Chris McDaniel should run as write-in candidate in November election
The Washington Times ^ | June 25, 2014 | By Seth McLaughlin

The head of tea party group said Wednesday that state Sen. Chris McDaniel should wage a write-in campaign in the November election after losing to Sen. Thad Cochran in a nasty Mississippi primary race.

Judson Phillips, the vocal leader of Tea Party Nation, an online group that backed Mr. McDaniel in the race, said that Mr. Cochran and his allies made it abundantly clear in the contest that the “RINO wing” of the Republican party will do whatever it can to stay in power — in this case by reaching out to Democrats.

“When the Republican Establishment acts like Democrats, what is the point of supporting them?” Mr. Phillips said in an early morning email blast. “The answer is, we don’t have to.

“Every McDaniel supporter in Mississippi from DeSoto County in the North to Biloxi in the South should stand up today and tell Chris McDaniel that if he runs as a write-in candidate in November, they will support him,” he said.

Nothing wrong with outreach...it depends the message used to bring disaffected Democrats (and others) into the fold.

Ronaldus Magnus campaigned on fundamental principles: unleash the free market economy; defeat a rotted Soviet Union through an unprecedented peace-time military build-up, and restore America’s position as the unquestioned leader of the world. And, Reagan showed blue collar Democrats how achieving those goals would lead to a better life for them and their families. Reagan did not run around touting his support for food stamps and other government give-aways.

Thad Cochran’s vision of “outreach” isn’t even in the same universe as Ronald Reagan’s. I’ve been told that President Reagan was never fond of Senator Cochran; he always was a superb judge of character.

Cochran may be in for a shock.

I am not sure he really knows what's going on. To me, the big miscalculation was escalating the war against the Tea Party with hard evidence by recruiting Dems for a primary in a red state. The NRSC et al should have shooed Barbour away from this.

For what it’s worth and that may not be very much....

http://www.tmcnet.com/usubmit/2011/01/16/5247199.htm

According to state law, write-in candidates are permitted only as the legitimate substitute
of a candidate who has died, resigned, withdrawn or been removed from the race.

That applies to every race, whether it’s a primary, special or general election at
any level of government, said Pamela Weaver, communications director of the secretary of
state’s office.

But every election ballot includes a space for write-in candidates, whether or not one
is needed for that race. It’s there just in case a write-in does become eligible.

And that’s perhaps where the confusion occurs, since some people see the space and assume
write-ins are allowed in all elections.
end snip

What’s wrong with reaching out to Democrats. Ronald Reagan would won the presidency in no small part to “Reagan Democrats.”

Is that you Haley Barbour or are you just reading off RNC talking points? Reagan didn't reach out to Democrats by pi$$ing conservatives heads, calling them racists, and promising black more government handouts. You GOP Establishment bootlickers are despicable.

This could be terminal to any future he might have in politics unless he was absolutely sure he would win.

I agree 100%.

What is needed is an American political party, which is for working Americans.

WORKING Americans.

Not for oursourcing. Not for laying off Americans, or hiring foreigners.

A party which is completely dedicated to bringing back, and building up, American jobs.

Jobs.

Best chance for McDaniel is if Cochran is on the other side of the grass before the election!

>> The article clearly stated he should run as a write in candidate not on the ballot as an Indy. <<

Somebody may be able to correct me on this point, but I believe Mississippi law says write-ins won’t count unless there has been a death of an “on the ballot” candidate.

>> [McDaniel] had the worst attendance record of any sitting state senator and of the 38 bills he has introduced, none have passed <<

Maybe he was just another weak, marginally-qualified candidate — in the mold of Sharon Angle, Ken Buck, Matt Bevin, Steve Stockman, Todd Akin, Christine O’Donnell, Joe Miller and Richard Mourdock?

It seems to me that if members of the tea party movement want to achieve anything of real substance in national politics — that is, something other than six-figure salaries for “leaders” like Jenny Beth Martin and Matt Kibbe — then they need to concentrate on the unglamorous, mundane job of finding high-quality candidates.

Not the least bit curious to those who know something about Mississippi politics!

I’ve given it some thought and there’s nothing stopping The Establishment from pulling this stunt over and over again in states with open primaries (and even states with closed primaries, but it’s tougher).

COCRAN MUST LOSE - we must show The Establishment that they still WILL NOT re-elect (or elect) their precious candidates if they do this stunt. If it means the Democrat winning in Mississippi, SO BE IT. If it means losing the Senate by one vote, SO BE IT. We cannot sit back and watch our elections be STOLEN from under us, by OUR OWN PARTY.

You’re correct.
AND independent candidates must register by March 1 to be on the November ballot.
