Authorities are investigating the deaths of 20 dogs at Green Acre Kennel, in Gilbert, Arizona. The place had billed itself as a "Doggie Disneyland" promising plenty of land for dogs to run free with no cages.
To Ryan Ingraham and his wife, it sounded like a great place to board their two black Labradors while they took a vacation.
Ingraham had contacted MaLeisa and Todd Hughes, owners of the business, two months ago. Then about a week ago, he decided to take the dogs to the Hughes' house for a trial run.

Wow, Disneyworld without any smiles.
This is horrifying.
“a scandal that involves the son of Senator Jeff Flake, (R-Ariz)”
Surprise, surprise.
People like this need to be taken out and shot. There is no redeeming quality to them. None.
Dog chewed through the power cord to the air conditioner.
Time to run power lines through iron pipe.
The people who run the place should suffer the same fate the poor dogs did.
Somebody just generously offered to *take us to Sturgis* for 2 weeks.
Had to turn them down.
Yes, it was heartbreaking to not be able to go to Biker Mecca but there are things much *more* heartbreaking.

I told Himself that he should go.
No sense in both of us missing out on a dream.
I doubt he will.
He fears I won’t survive.
Wish I was in Maryland, I could have helped watch your dogs. The only thing, what about the snakes?
This is bullshit.
“MaLeisa Hughes stated that nothing could have been done to prevent what happened.”
Herpers use temperature/climate alarm systems that notify them, wherever they are if a catastrophic failure occurs.
When you have exotic snakes worth many thousands of dollars lying around, unable to escape any adverse condition that might manifest, you *prepare*.
“The tragedy is growing into a scandal that involves the son of Senator Jeff Flake, (R-Ariz) and Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, who is also no stranger to scandal.”
Scandal? This is a hit piece on Arpaio. This is the “scandal.”

The WAPO article doesn’t attack Arpaio:
Common sense and the most meager knowledge of dogs would have seen that done, already.
So how long to fix it, an hour?
These folks were putting on a front, knowing that the dogs would not tell on them... except, well, they did.
Well, they were not snakekeepers.
They were not raccoonnookkeepers either.
One of the totally cool things about snakes, is, they can do well for *months* without food and weeks without water, if the situation arises.
The water issue, is, of course very much less than optimal or desirable but it is doable as they really do not drink a lot.
[I have rescued snakes who were severely dehydrated from months of no water and after one loooooooooooong drink and a soak, they bounced right back]
Leaving them for a length of time is no issue.
They all have spill-proof, heavy crockery water bowls that contain *much* more water than they would ever need, even for weeks at a time.
The dogs, however, are nowhere near as easy.
I have friend who is a vet tech and she operates an in-home pet sitting service.
The dogs know and love her when we visit the vet.
*But*, they are totally different animals when they’re *here*.
This is their home and their fortress.
I cannot see them allowing anyone in to tend them, especially Seven.
She absolutely does not allow what she considers “trespassers” and she will back up her bark with biting.
So, I do not go away for more than a few hours at a time.
But that’s okay.
They’re all more than worth the “aggravation”.
Bless you for your kindness, though.
The lead article complains that Arpaio’s attention was so badly being monopolized by illegal immigrant affairs that he was unable to respond satisfactorily to sexual assault crimes or this apparent fraud and animal cruelty crime. I have no way of knowing if this complaint is an accurate or even reasonable accusation.
I guess one would bring in water and dog food on long poles that are ordered from the Acme Company.
