Congressional investigators have uncovered emails showing that a former Internal Revenue Service official at the heart of the tea party investigation sought an audit of a Republican senator in December 2012.

A set up is the simplest likely explanation. News reports confirm that Grassley did not receive an invitation addressed to Lerner, so the “invitation stuffed in the wrong envelope” idea does not fly -— and what would the odds of that be, one in how many million???
An organization concerned about taxes might well be inviting both Lerner and Grassley, but such an organization might well have a mole who was setting a trap. It is just bizarre.
Clesrly the internet has left them in the lurch-—must be galling for them to know internet peons like us are breaking news stories left and right.....24/7.
Am thinking she may have been working with someone in DOJ. We need to see correspondence she had with them. They would have been able to get authority to wiretap or censor mail of any individual. — and lie to get a judge to so order — just like journalist
Thanks!
Cap Huff,
Look at that email from LL, she says (paraphrasing)
“oh hey, did grassley get MY invite?”
Kinda overplaying it, hmm?
It does sound like a setup..... who was in charge of sending out invitations? There coulda been a mole in that office...
The email is posted here (many thanks, Oldeconomybuyer :

I had read the email a little earlier, but missed the thing about Grassley getting her invitation. And how would this Giuliano guy know that the invitations were stuffed in the wrong envelopes? Grassley’s office said that the senator did not attend and he did not get Lerner’s invitation. I wonder whether these statements in both emails were fabricated to make it look like a chance event.
I wonder when the event was planned for. This was December 4 2012. If the event was later the same month, any 1099 income would be showing up by 15 April 2013 in a return, or not showing up. Grassley would be getting audited by June, I suppose.
I hope they call this Giuliano guy to testify.

And who is Ms Flax referring to when she says “we should get CI involved”
Re: your post:
Grassley was on taxation committee before 0 got elected!!!
[Criminal Investigation Division]
Seems that when this is prosecuted (and it will be) a lot of leads will already be established 0 and Co should have turned it over early SP wouldn’t have had the time or money to search for all that is going to be found and laid out for them the longer they wait.
Would someone who knows how to save a video - save this one please?

The Norman A. Sugarman Memorial Lecture in Nonprofit Law - “Political Tax Law after Citizens United: A Time for Reform” Presented by Gregory L. Colvin, Principal, Adler & Colvin
Date - Thursday, April 22, 2010
Location - The Mandel Center for Nonprofit Organizations on the campus
of Case Western Reserve University
Description -
When handing down the recent U.S. Supreme Court decision in Citizens
United v. Federal Election Commission, the majority criticized the
chilling effect on First Amendment speech of complex, uncertain rules.
The Internal Revenue Service uses a vague “facts and circumstances”
approach to judge when a nonprofit organization engages in political
campaign activity. Based on 30 years of experience wrestling with this
problem, Mr. Colvin proposes a thorough reform of the federal tax law
definition of political activity, with safe harbors, bright lines, and
above all, simplicity and ease of understanding.
Greg Colvin is a principal with Adler & Colvin, a San Francisco-based
firm committed to serving the legal needs of the nonprofit sector. His
practice includes political and lobbying activities of nonprofit
organizations, fiscal sponsorship, donor-advised funds, anonymous
giving and grantmaking. He is the author of Fiscal Sponsorship: Six
Ways to Do It Right.
Norman Sugarman, a graduate of Western Reserve University’s Adelbert
College and School of Law, was a recognized authority in the area of
charitable giving and charitable tax-exempt organizations. The
biennial Norman A. Sugarman Memorial Lecture in Nonprofit Law is
funded by gifts from Mr. Sugarman’s law firm, Baker & Hostetler, LLP,
its partners, and others to honor his memory and to continue his
efforts on behalf of the philanthropic sector.

Grassley might know.
Now he should be loaded for bear.....
He was the chairman of the committee that Flax helped out on.
Then Flax went over to “the other side”.
I do too .... giulano should be squeezed for info....
One of Greta’s lawyers guest suggested that Issa set up a hot line (email) where tips and materials can be sent. He said people at IRS know things but don’t know how to get information safely to someone who can do anything with it. Or something like that. It does seem like a good idea. We only need one “deep throat”
