Running a series of headline stories that seem, on the surface, to mirror an already bad story subconsciously makes a large portion of people meld the stories together (ie, the Bird-Dawg desertion).
The point is to make Bird-Dawg seem “normal” - maybe even common.
The media does this mind trick often with gun stories.
It’s coordinated, too, for maximum impact.
After a while, the editors and journalists who aren’t even in on the scam start running similar stories because they see these articles in the majors and this tricks them into thinking that Americans are interested in these stories. And the trick multiplies.
It’s been going on since at least the Civil War.
