For those who would not otherwise know what the phrase "barred from some acts of church worship" means, it means that she would not be allowed to offer the opening or closing prayer at a Church meeting, to teach a class, or to give a talk in Sacrament Meeting. OTOH, the standard language and procedure would be for her to be invited to come to all Church meetings. If, at the end of one year she met with her bishop and stake president and agreed to support all Church teachings, her excommunication could be reversed through re-baptism. That, at least, was the procedure when I was involved in such events.

So basically, she gets out of doing work.

I notice the careful omission from your post that excommunication includes revoking of Kelly's "temple recommend"...barring her from the arcane rituals that mormonism claims is necessary for salvation.

Her parents, long time faithful members had THEIR "recommends" revoked for the simple act of supporting their daughter.

Note: Article 3 of the mormon creed, "Articles of Faith" states 'We believe that through the Atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel." Plainly stating that salvation can ONLY be gained by taking part in arcane temple rituals. The LDS Endowment

Kelly's man-determined punishment according to mormon doctrine, closes the door for her to attain mormon "salvation".

There is NO such thing in mormonism as a "personal relationship with Jesus Christ". The gatekeepers of the sect consider themselves to be in control of eternal salvation. The mislead members blindly allow this intervention by men's rules between Jesus Christ and themselves.

"If we get our salvation, we shall have to pass by Joseph Smith; if we enter our glory, it will be through the authority he has received. We cannot get around him." -1988 Melchizedek Priesthood Study Guide, p. 142, Apostle George Q. Cannon.

This so-called "authority" received by Joseph Smith is described at the LDS.org website Link in this manner: Through the authority of the Melchizedek Priesthood, Church leaders guide the Church and direct the preaching of the gospel throughout the world. In the ordinances of the Melchizedek Priesthood, “the power of godliness is manifest” (D&C 84:20). This greater priesthood was given to Adam and has been on the earth whenever the Lord has revealed His gospel. It was taken from the earth during the Great Apostasy, but it was restored in 1829, when the Apostles Peter, James, and John conferred it upon Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery.

It also means, per Mormon Doctrine, Kelly can never live in Heavenly Father's eternal presence minus her "get into God's presence" temple recommend card (kind of like a Monopoly "get out of jail" card)...

OTOH, the standard language and procedure would be...

Which 'language'?

What most people understand; or the revised meanings that MormonISM gives to Christian words?

Imagine a society of Latter Day-saints, a perfect cloister of exemplary individuals.

Crimes or deviance, properly so-called, will there be unknown; but faults, which appear venial to the Gentile,

will there create the same scandal that the ordinary offense does in ordinary consciousnesses.

If then, this society has the power to judge and punish, it will define these acts as criminal (or deviant) and will treat them as such.

Thanks to Émile Durkheim
