You are supposed to stand under door jams where you are under part of a wall. Can’t go outside because you could get electrocuted by live wires; and if gas lines break with live electrical wire there could be one big blast anyway.
So, what’s wrong with a big field of strawberries, artichokes, lettuce, cauliflower, broccoli? As long as anything is over your head when the big one erupts, a door jamb is not going to do anyone a whole bunch of good.
We have to deal with tropical storms and hurricanes, but we have days advance warning which is not the case for your location. Makes one wonder just how good it really is out there. Personally, I prefer the desert southwest.
Where I am it’s underground wires and no gas.
I was in a church class once when a quake hit. The instructor was chastising me as I went outside. I told him not to worry and I would watch for falling light poles, but I was not a lemming that was going to wait for the roof to potentially collapse because “some guy” told me to.
