CHICAGO (CN) - Suburban Chicago police shot a 95-year-old WWII veteran to death with bean bag rounds at short range because he refused to go to the hospital, his stepdaughter claims in court.

"On July 26, 2014 [sic], John Wrana, Jr., was twelve days shy of his 96th birthday and a resident at the Victory Centre of Park Forest Assisted Living Center located in Park Forest, Illinois. On that date, Mr. Wrana was alone in his room, suffering from what the facility's staff believed were symptoms indicative of a urinary tract infection in an elderly person," the complaint begins. Victory Center employees tried to get Wrana into an ambulance to go to the hospital for treatment, but he allegedly refused to leave his room. The defendant officers responded to employees' 911 call, and also were unable to persuade Wrana to leave his room and go to the hospital. The officers conferred and decided to seize Wrana by force, according to the complaint.

Upon entering the room, defendant Taylor fired "five rounds of bean bag cartridges from a 12 gauge shotgun within a distance of approximately only six to eight feet from Mr. Wrana, far less than the distance allowed for discharging that shotgun, and, consequently, savagely wounding and killing Mr. Wrana," the lawsuit states. "Mr. Wrana bled to death as a result of the shotgun wounds inflicted upon him by defendants. The Cook County Medical Examiner ruled that Mr. Wrana's death was a homicide caused by blunt force trauma to his abdomen as a result of shots fired from a bean bag shotgun."

After shooting Wrana, the officers handcuffed him, took photos of his injuries, and put him in a four-point restraint before transporting him to the hospital, the complaint states.

how can there possibly have been the need to fire FIVE almost point-blank shots against a 96 year old guy half out of his head from infection?

The obvious answer is the cops were getting their rocks off.

After all, so dogs in the area, so the old man would have to do.

It is still the all-pervasive statist attitude, the elitist “us vs them” training that is instilled into the adepts of the fascist machine ... It may not be Chicago per se, bu it is the “Chicago way,” best represented in the persons of Rham Emanuel and Barack Obama.

They must have just about cut him in half - and THEN - instead of getting him to the hospital = they TAKE PICTURES - and THEN put him a 4-point restraint.

RESTRAINT??? They must have all but cut him in half with FIVE!!!

Yup. After shooting him multiple times with the 12-gauge, they still felt they had to restrain him. The only thing they didn’t do to him was take out their sticks and start clubbing and stomping on him.

OK—did anyone read the article? The man was shot with bean-bag cartridges, from a range much closer than advised for that type of armament. He was not, however, almost cut in half. This was still a brutal, uncalled for killing, but take some time to read what actually happened.

The cops in Sacramento killed a 22 year old with a butcher knife. The LAPD waited one hour for a guy with a knife to come down. He had stabbed three relatives.

He needs to go to prison for murder.

Assuming the story is correct, that's the minimum punishment he should receive.

my father, a retired cop told me if the cops are overstepping their authority, the one who allows it, their commander is the responsible one. He allows it to happen....Notice the way the chief of police, any time there is a homicide by officer, run to the mike and defend the murderers of their action....starts at the top..chief is just one layer, all the layers of authority are also culpable...The chief if a political job, not voted on... Rank goes to those that follow the chiefs orders, all are murderers.....I don’t speak of all police, the chief, lieutenants, Sargent’s etc. give permission to the cop on the street to do as they wish..

“my father, a retired cop “

You are referring to the fine days when the police were to “serve and protect”. It is only in a relative short period of time that they have morphed into being jack-booted thugs.
If you see any fairly recent movies on TV that involve police action, you will see what I mean. “Get on the ground. Get on the ground, NOW!”

The thugcop has been charged, but not with murder as you or I would be:

“Cook County prosecutors have already charged Officer Craig Taylor with felony reckless conduct related to John Wrana’s death in July 2013.”

He undoubtedly KNEW that firing 5 rounds into a 96 year old man at point blank range with a 12-gauge would in all likelihood kill him. He WANTED to kill him. And he gets charged with pretty much just a slap on the wrist.

"This is what American cops have been morphing into"

No. This, is what our GOVERNMENT is morphing into.
When the common people learn to recognize that police are just enforcers and revenue collectors for their government masters, they will then begin to assign blame to the proper place.

One day soon, vigilante justice will start to become attractive to more and more people. Then look out for the chaos.

Yeah,,,and the Nazi’s at the death camps weren’t responsible for herding people into gas chambers. They were just enforcing Hitlers orders.

The Nazi regime would have never been able to do that without the support of millions of people who helped put them in power. Our country has become fascist, because that's what our culture has become, and the out of control police are a symptom of our out of control government, which apparently a bunch of brain dead people want.
