An arrogant and lawless IRS
Washington Post ^ | June 23, 2014 | Michael Gerson

Posted on 06/23/2014 9:17:40 PM PDT by Second Amendment First

Noted management expert and Internal Revenue Service Commissioner John Koskinen was apparently called out of retirement — like the Ted Williams of evasive, unapologetic bureaucrats — to destroy what is left of his agency’s credibility.

At immediate issue is two years of subpoenaed e-mails from former IRS official Lois Lerner to outside agencies, lost in a convenient computer crash. The possible involvement of other agencies is one focus of a congressional investigation into the heightened IRS scrutiny of conservative nonprofit groups before the 2012 election.

In recent congressional testimony, Koskinen admitted that the e-mails were irretrievably gone; that the “backup tapes” had been erased; and that Lerner’s hard drive was apparently destroyed in an aggressive act of recycling. With that settled, Koskinen expressed his “hope that the investigations  can be concluded in the very near future.”

It is a mix of arrogance and delusion that seems designed to incense Republicans. Koskinen had delayed informing Congress of the lost e-mails for months, even while assuring members they would be provided. “It was my decision that we complete the investigation,” he said, “so we could fully advise you as to what the situation was.” Translation from management-speak: We wanted to get our story straight before we advised you of anything. Koskinen complained about the breadth of subpoenas and the “piecemealing out” of information. Translation: We will provide you what we want when we want. “Every e-mail,” Koskinen assured the House Ways and Means Committee, “has been preserved that we have.” Except the ones they don’t have — and somehow snuffed out, tied to an anvil and thrown into the ocean.

Since all Americans and not just Republican Americans are subject to IRS scrutiny, all Americans should be incensed!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Exactly, my thoughts.
We all have a fear and hatred for the IRS, or should.
They come after anyone matter what their political party is so——
Why are the dims so incensed and kissing IRS butt?
That is the question I want answered.
I mean if there isn’t a smidgen of corruption, hummm.
Those comments by Obama are taken completely out of context. Here on FR we stick to the facts and build credibility. Your link to a youtube edit of Obama’s speech which he is reading are not supportive of building the credibility of this forum.
The best you can say with this link you have posted is that Obama is good at reading what is I believe put before him to screens placed high up near the center to his left and his right. The giveaway that he is reading is the precise pause made to each reading passage.
The screens seem placed on the balconies in front of Euro leaders where they can not see them and behind the press and younger crowd that are focused on him and who also cannot see the screens unless they turn around completely. So it’s a very clever production making Obama appear to be thinking spontaneously but the cadence of his pauses reveal otherwise.
Here’s the full speech he gave:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KbeLAQ3wBIs
It is obvious that a speechwriter wrote 99% of the speech and that the message was that the USA as leader of NATO would not intervene with Russia’s annexation of Crimea.
The speechwriter reasserts well-known American history and values while Obama unloads the punch line that the USA and NATO are not going to do a thing about Ukraine.
” - - - Republicans like Paul Ryan are doing good work. - - - “
The totality of action is my measure of our sorry Congress Critters.
Ryan comes up slightly negative, but lately he has embraced the Obama Democrat positions on Foreign Policy beyond what is good for America, so he has slipped several notches toward the not good.
Caving-In is the hallmark of the not good which I am interested in mowing down, ASAP!
I have NO interest in the “purity” of a Republican or Democrat.
I am interested in who has proven him- or herself to be good for the United States of America.
Care to join me?
This is a MAJOR issue of monumental and historical proportions. The IRS dude can hope it goes away, but it won’t and the Dems should be frightened as all the machinations shout “cover-up” and when it is exposed it will be far worse than Watergate - I wonder if they see the Tsunami coming or are they all wading out into the receeding ocean waves which will soon swallow them all up.
“Why are the dims so incensed and kissing IRS butt?”
Well? The Democrat Party is behind and benefited from the IRS illegally targeting the opposition to influence election results ?
Sadly the legacy of the first African American elected President of the United States will be that he was an incompetent, closeted homosexual narcissist that led a country he bitterly despised into an era of neo pagan decadence and decline.
And the saddest part is there are so many superior black men who could have been chosen. "Smartest man in the world" my rear end. Besides the glowing characteristics you list, add total, blatant disregard for the truth.
He doesn't just have a touchy inferiority complex - he's flat inferior.
I’m hoping that there are things going on that we don’t know about, in an effort to get to the bottom of this
Yea, I'm sure Eric Holder is making monumental efforts to get to the bottom of this.
Boehner is a groveling drunkard interested only in his own position and power. He is detestable.
This drives me nuts, because every time I see this IRS guy he reminds me of a buddy of mine who looks a lot like him. Except... my friend is a real American with real values:
I hope so.
As long as we're the ones writing the history...
I am honestly curious as to how you or any other Obama sympathizer would word his success, his legacy as president.
I have an open mind, so long as actual facts not just unsupported opinions are main features.
If Chairman Issa does not also call for Special Council, then what would Issa be trying to cover up?
I trust everybody here actually means "Special Counsel?"
"... you or any other Obama sympathizer ..."
Gosh FRiend, that's a rather nasty thing to say. What in the world makes you think I'm an "Obama sympathizer?" He can't leave office soon enough to suit me.
I hope we're the ones that write the history. If we lose our opponents will write the history. That's just how it works.
(all these idols will have clay feet sooner or later — yep even the founders did, slavery anyone?)
Give it a rest, will you?
Your obsession is getting tiresome.
Even the One who worked miracles lived in an age of universal slavery, and he didn't obsess as badly as you.
Not that I can remember, anyway.
"Slavery anyone?" is so third grade!
At least find a different line...
You are pulling the accusation of obsession out of your rear, because you know how you look and are desperate!
Unable to formulate a rational relevant adult response? Poor misunderstood baby.
Thank you for that irrational verbal lashing out.
I can use a chuckle after a long day.
Been nice talking to ya.
