Tensions mount in Iraq as Mahdi Army put on show of force in Baghdad featuring missiles, bazookas and assault rifles while Isis seize key Syria border crossing.
Baghdad's biggest Shia Muslim faction staged a show of force in face of the Isis threat to the Iraqi capital on Saturday, in a parade that stretched for several miles, featuring missiles, bazookas, hi-tech assault rifles and artillery.
As tens of thousands of uniformed men marched through the streets, loudspeakers proclaimed how they would defend Iraq from the Sunni jihadists rampaging through the north of the country.
This pageant of armed might, however, was not an official Iraqi army display to reassure an anxious public.
Instead, it was a mass show of force by the Mahdi Army, the vast Shia militia that is now baring its teeth at its old Sunni enemies as they advance on the Iraqi capital....

I’m guessing somewhere in the Midwest.
May the Lord see fit to let them all annihilate each other completely!

March north!
It looks like Barry is sending 300 US advisers to advise an army that doesn’t exist anymore.
No potential for trouble there, none at all.

Do you think it might be accompanied by a mushroom cloud?
When are these 300 to arrive? He’s not rushing them there, it could be all over soon.
Maybe that’s his plan, who knows, your not allowed to ask him anything.
I don't believe countries like Iraq, which were artificially created decades ago, will ever become democracies some say they would like to see.
The Iranian regime's interference is not welcome in Iraq either by many Iraqi Shiites - even if help is needed to push back the sunnis (ISIS). Arabs Shiites, have their own unique culture, and most consider Al Sistani as their spiritual leader, not the Iranian mullah Khamenei. I think it is wise for the West to stay out of this mess, at least for now.
Perhaps they should go and actually engage the enemy instead of marching around playing “Army” before the other humps take over the entire country.
Don’t forget it could be NASA with their mission to elevate the self esteem of muslims.
Hmmm, an invader is slowly creeping over the country side so let’s get everyone together for a feel good march through a city they haven’t taken yet. And be sure to get plenty of pics on facebook and twitter. That’ll show’em how serious we really are. Yeah, that’s the ticket......
You mean there is a place on the planet he has NOT destroyed yet ? Well he does have 2 1/2 years left.
DC idealists thought they could get Sunni and Shia to bury the hatchets and get along like good neighbors. Not gonna happen until the end times and then it will be too late.
Ironically, al-Sistani is himself an Iranian.
True, he was born & raised mostly in Iran. Just as Ali Larijani, chairman of Iranian parliament, was born in Iraq. But Sistani has issues with Khomeini’s invention the doctrine of Velayate Faghih (Islamic Jurisprudence), which is the foundation of the current Iranian regime & doesn’t follow it. That’s why many Arab shiites see him as their spiritual leader.
