IRS Chief: Special Prosecutor Would Be "Monumental" Waste of Money
With six investigations already digging into the IRS's inappropriate targeting of political groups, appointing an independent special prosecutor to investigate the matter would be "a monumental waste of taxpayer funds," IRS Commissioner John Koskinen said in a heated exchange with a House Republican leader Friday morning.
Koskinen testified before the House Ways and Means Committee in the wake of the revelation that the IRS cannot produce emails from Lois Lerner -- the former IRS official at the heart of the controversy -- from 2009 through April 2011 because of a computer crash that Lerner suffered in 2011.
"What you have lost is all credibility," Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dave Camp, R-Mich., told Koskinen. He added, "I don't believe the IRS went through every possible exercise to recover these documents."
Republicans keep pressing IRS over lost emails from Lerner, six others GOP leader subpoenas IRS chief over missing emails He said appointing a special prosecutor to the case would be the only way to resolve the controversy and restore credibility to the agency. Camp also asked for the serial numbers of all relevant hard drives that crashed and the actual hard drives themselves, if possible.

Surprise! The LSM comes to the aid of Obama.
Jah-whorn-nah-lists.
I try to stay optimistic that truth will out, but after watching the hearing this morning, these guys cannot get out of their own way. No game plan on questioning; just free form flying by the seat of their pants. No coherence from one to the next. All see to be paddling their own canoe.
I agree, in a way. Just throw the director and everyone down to the tech responsible for flipping on the switch to back up the e-mails automatically into jail. It’s what the IRS would do.
I think the cost of a special prosecutor ought to come out of IRS funds, specifically the fund used to give all the upper echelon employees bonuses. That might change their tune and get them to cooperate.
Grab it if you can find it. Just publishing the book got Congressman Hansen run out of congress and imprisoned on bullsh*t charges which were finally overturned in 1995.
Note the headline from CBS. (Of all the possible damaging headlines for Obama and IRS.) Good job. Obama sends his best.
“Lawmakers Call On NSA To Turn Over Lerners Lost Emails”
Yeah, and the next thing you know, the NSA will be claiming that they too have somehow managed to “loose” all the e-mail traffic from Lois’ computer.
” Its what the IRS would do.”
Bullseye!!!!
Waste of Money——That’s all this administration does.
“They have no honor or shame. Prosecute them for obstruction of justice and perjury.”
Koskinen, just another of a long list of crooks running the IRS. FUBO sure has a “deep bench” when it comes to career senior Gov’t. “managers” doesn’t he!

Did he mean waste of money in the sense of spending $750 million on a worthless and non functional ObamaCare web site and them another $500 million to fix it.
Or was he just objecting to the fact that he found it difficult to envision how an Obama or Valerie Jarrett crony could be hired as Special Prosecutor and have tens of millions of dollars steered to the cronies
I agree since they just keep lying and nothing ever happens to them.
Watching this whole mess unravel, I’m still amazed the committee hasn’t called in some technical experts to provide them the basic information on how e-mail systems work and why this IRS baloney is such a laughable lie.
BTW, technical expert = any sharp community college graduate with a few of the basic Microsoft Certifications with some experience on Exchange Server. This does not require a Ph.D. in Computer Science, IMO. After the kid with the MSCE/MSCP explains it to them, they ought to see the need for a few J.D. holders to form a Special Prosecutor’s office.
They know the hard drive story is BS. They don’t want to bring in techies to tell them otherwise, because they like this story and plan to use it themselves sometime in the future.
Lots of low info people think the hard drive story is how it happened. The pols want to keep this one for future use.
OK, let’s just skip the special prosecutor and hang all the bastards right now.
