PHOENIX — A teacher at an Arizona prison was alone in a room full of sex offenders before being stabbed and sexually assaulted by a convicted rapist, according to documents obtained by The Associated Press about an attack that highlighted major security lapses at the facility.
The attack occurred Jan. 30 at the Eyman prison’s Meadows Unit, which houses about 1,300 rapists, child molesters and other sex offenders. The teacher was administering a high school equivalency test to about a half-dozen inmates in a classroom with no guard nearby and only a radio to summon help. The Department of Corrections issued only a bare-bones press release after the attack, but the AP pieced together what happened based on interviews and investigatory reports obtained under the Arizona Public Records Act.
After the last of the other inmates left, Jacob Harvey asked the teacher if she could open the bathroom and then attacked her, records show. Harvey is accused of stabbing her in the head with a pen, forcing her to the ground and raping her.

Unless the teacher was taught how to assess risky situations, subdue inmates and passed the fitness standards for guards, her job wasn't "overseeing" inmates; it was teaching them and there should have been a guard present.
The article said her radio wasn't tuned to the right channel - didn't it have a panic button? My EMS radio has a panic button and the signal identifies the specific radio.
Grabbing the radio and hitting that recessed panic button in an attack would be hard enough; holding the transmit button and talking impossible. Probably end up in a fight to see who could beat the other one in the head with the radio.

They don't. It's just window dressing for unsuspecting citizens who do not think things through. They're here illegally, they have no proof of identity whatsoever. Of course they're not using their legal name from a foreign jurisdiction, and of course that name changes when expedient. That's known as an alias for people who are held to account under the law.
It's the same as accepting the notion that photo ID is just so darned hard to acquire that it's racist to expect it, when the true motivation is expediting vote fraud.
Blame the victim, eh?
Even if she had warped views, an accusation eagerly presented without evidence, the prison was still responsible for her safety. She probably saw many armed guards as she was escorted to the testing room and knew that her presence there was officially approved and thought professionals would do their jobs. They can’t just take donut breaks, leaving their radios in the mens room, and expect visitors to fend for themselves. Without a guard standing in the room with her, how is she to know there’s no one around, no one listening, monitoring, standing by.
A building full of rapists and child molesters? Lock down the prison and set it on fire!
I have a solution to this problem. Lock it down, have the prison guards removed, and daisy cutter it to dust. Then not one of these criminals will ever commit another crime again.

That was my thought, that he’s Indian. Unfortunately, many Indians still live in squalor on their reservations. Some can integrate into society, but others get caught up in alcoholism, drug abuse and generationaly held low expectations. What got my attention is learning of the cruelty of his first sex offense, done with view of a two year old child. I wonder if he has FAS; Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. It doesn’t matter, in that he must still be punished and kept away from society.
Many in the black community have some of the same ‘loss of hope’ problems.
I had considered being trained to be a volunteer teacher’s aide for children of convicts, but decided even that association may be too risky.

Lots of Mexicans are native american, or Indians as we say. Lots of Apache, Inca, Aztec, etc. So don’t let anybody tell you our Indian population has declined. It hasn’t. It is at an all time high.
Living in Arizona..believe it or not you can tell a difference between mexican natives and native americans. Mexican natives tend to be shorter and round faced while natives in AZ are slimmer faced with redder skin.
Unfortunately, many Indians still live in squalor on their reservations.
