The top Republican on one of the House committees investigating the IRS targeting scandal reacted furiously late Wednesday to a report that ex-IRS official Lois Lerner's hard drive had been recycled, making it likely that many emails sent to and from Lerner prior to the summer of 2011 will never be recovered.
The Politico report cited two anonymous sources, as well as Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, who confirmed that the Senate Finance Committee had been told that the hard drive had been discarded.
"If the IRS truly got rid of evidence in a way that violated the Federal Records Act and ensured the FBI never got a crack at recovering files from an official claiming a Fifth Amendment protection against self-incrimination, this is proof their whole line about 'losing' e-mails in the targeting scandal was just one more attempted deception," House Oversight and Government Reform Committee chairman Darrell Issa, R-Calif., said in a statement. "Official records, like the e-mails of a prominent official, don't just disappear without a trace unless that was the intention."

Some people need to be jailed, lost pensions, etc.
If that doesn’t happen, then it’s going to get worse for the next two years.
AND it demoralizes the people when the government doesn’t have to follow the laws and the people are continuously getting screwed with no apparent possible recourse.
That is not a good recipe for electoral relief.
I know this gets us fired up, but many will just say “forget it - nothing will happen any way”. At least, that’s 0bama’s plan.
I’m afraid this won’t be solved without a whistle blower.
Surely someone within IRS has a conscience — or, failing that, bills to pay.
Maybe we can get the Koch brothers to pony up a one million dollar reward for whistle-blowing information, delivered in Federal court and leading to the arrest and conviction of Lois Lerner and/or other high ranking IRS officials.
Get one of THEM to crack by carrot or stick, and it’s bye-bye Bambi, bye-bye Holder.
Hey IRS, the emails aren’t on her hard drive, they are on the server!
How stupid do you think everyone is?
John Boehner has to be part of the cover up.He also wanted the Tea Party crushed. You can’t turn a blind eye to this unless you are part of a cover up.
I was reading that RAID servers, the kind pretty anybody uses these days, are designed to not fail. If one hard drive does fail, it can be replaced as easily as you would put a toner cartridge in a printer.
Nothing gets lost, unless somebody makes it lost.
I agree with you—but Issa has not utilized all his options. He has dropped the ball every time.
So the IRS is so dumb that emails are only kept on local drives? They are deleted from the Exchange server and there are no local backups, tape backups, and no disaster recovery plan?
Please...
They can do whatever they want with her hard drive. The evidence is on servers and backed up every day. Good grief.
Exactly. Emails are ONLY kept on local hard drives goes against practically every email architecture and backup plan in the world.
Let’s see the fury of Boehner and Graham. “Why, why, if they do this again there will be action.” I can just hear them now.
The response by the Obama administration is worthy of a banana republic.
Boehner wants the Tea Party crushed. What else can it be.
“And on top of everything else- emails are sent to someone, right? So, where are their copies?”
I suspect the regime has that covered when they announced that six other corrupt Gov. workers had their email lost as well.
Conversely I could envision Trey Gowdy grabbing Lois Lerner by the scuff of her neck, cuffing her and having her hauled off to the Capitol jail.
And the GOP acceptance of that answer s worthy of the “Stupid Party” tag...
And yet Boehner STILL will not have the bitch arrested.
I hope they can break the media/regime logjam. This behavior is bad for any country.
When the government does as it pleases to the detriment of the people, bloodshed inevitably follows. What conditions have, throughout history, been present at the time of bloodshed between a government and its people?
The next logical step for the government is to begin jailing political opponents. “What charges? They were lost in a bureaucratic paperwork snafu. Now STFU.”
It’s close to too late.
>> Hey IRS, the emails arent on her hard drive, they are on the server!
Not exactly. SOME of her emails were on the server (the ones that went to recipients within the IRS). They turned those over to Congress.
But, you see, the ones sent from that same IRS account to governmental agencies OUTSIDE the IRS automagically diverted to a DIFFERENT file store that wasn’t backed up.
Isn’t that how the email works at your organization? Yeah, mine neither.
>> How stupid do you think everyone is?
They’re too arrogant and narcissistic to give a dxmn whether or not we’re stupid. This is pure-D in-your-face what-are-you-going-to-do-about-it totalitarianism. This is the “I am god” attitude of a Hitler or a Mussolini. The cold comfort is recalling what finally happened to Hitler and Mussolini.
Should look for the “paper copies”.....
Round up the IT people from her site and put them in front of the special committee. I think we’d get the truth from them.
