Ex-IRS official Lois Lerners crashed hard drive has been recycled, making it likely the lost emails of the lightening rod in the tea party targeting controversy will never be found, according to multiple sources.
Weve been informed that the hard drive has been thrown away, said Sen. Orrin Hatch of Utah, the top Republican on the Finance Committee, in a brief hallway interview.
Two additional sources told POLITICO the same late on Wednesday, citing IRS officials.

It may just be standard government procedure, but the revelation is significant because some lawmakers and observers thought there was a way that tech experts could revive Lerners emails after they were washed away in a computer crash in the summer of 2011. Oversight Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), for example, subpoenaed her damaged hard drive earlier this week, when he asked for all hard drives, external drives, thumb drives, and computers and all electronic communication devices the IRS issued to Lois G. Lerner.
IT experts have weighed in and said yes we can get those emails, said Rep. Charles Boustany (R-La.) earlier Wednesday.
The latest news suggests such professionals may never get the chance to try again and the IRS has said even its criminal investigators who specialize in rebuilding hard drives to recover hidden information from criminals were unable to restore the data back in 2011. But this is only likely to further enrage Republicans, who are fuming over the matter and suspect Washington officials drove the selective scrutiny.

and all thebackup servers? and the law-required printouts?
With any normally competent IT department, they could restore anybody’s PC within a day or two. The technology is not brand spanking new for this!
So, did the recipients of all the emails also have drive crashes that destroyed the emails????
This is all so obviously a lie.
That's "Master Law", not "peasant law".
The Masters determine whether or not they have to follow "Master Law".
"peasant law"? Well, that's what all the guys in the "pretend sojer" costumes and the armored SWAT vehicles are for.
You ain't gettin' "uppity" about this, are you, peasant?
And generally, if this was a Microsoft shop all those emails really sat on a central server anyhow. They did not flit from private endpoint to private endpoint with no record in between!

Why are we just hearing about this now? But these e-mails would have been on other servers and other computers that did not crash. So we have here a classic late Friday evening news dump, and the IRS is claiming they can’t locate many of her e-mails prior to 2011 because her computer crashed during the summer of that year, which is preposterous. The Regime may not know that I know this, but since the Eisenhower administration, every federal agency’s required to have a Continuity of Operations Plan. COOP is the acronym. And the COOP plan requires that they make and store duplicates of everything. These duplicates are maintained in another safe location in the event records are destroyed by fire or natural disaster or nuclear attack.
Oh great ..!!!!!!
CAN WE FIRE THEM ALL NOW ..???????
THE DESTRUCTION OF EVIDENCE IS A FELONY ..!!!!
I’m going to make a wild guess and say that either the President’s or Valerie Jarrett’s name was found in the docs they were supposed to turn over to the House.
THIS IS CRIMINAL ACTIVITY ..!!!!
I work for County government,, There is no way this happened. there are laws dictating how you dispose of property. This is unbelievable.
I wonder if Snowden has a copy.
Heres the thing... Your E-mails are not on your computer hard drive. They are on the server on the company that is your provider. You cant go directly to your computer to access them. You have to get on line, access the server.
Here in Tampa we are having lost e-mail service with Road Runner,Brighthouse. Brighthouse said dont worry, all e-mails are safely stored on their servers, and eveything is backed up.
As the Obama regime’s rule over Americans winds down, I’ll bet we’re going to see a lot of documents and other things start to disappear or “go transparent” so we won’t be able to see them. Servers will be “crashing” all over Washington. Either that or the Kenyan will just pre-pardon anyone associated with his regime including himself.
Since IRS operatives have long since smashed those hard drives with sledgehammers, I’m not surprised.
But you follow the laws. They don’t. End of story.
All the blather about backups and tapes is irrelevant once you understand that they decided that these emails will never become public. No different than Obama’s birth certificate or any of the other lawless acts that they have gotten away with.
“THEY WERE BACKED UP, HATCH!! YOU DINOSAUR...”
This guy is probably still mastering the intricacies of Windows 3.11 on zippy 9600 baud dial-up. Maybe he can get together with that other legislative idiot so that he can learn how the Internet “tubes” work.
“What a freakin joke our country has become under the baby-boomer leadership. I cant wait for the boomers to move through the annals of time. They are horrors as national leaders.”

It’s pretty appalling when virtually every single defense that the Administration has come up with in each and every scandal/crisis/outrage over the last several years has been “incompetence” - of everyone involved EXCEPT themselves.
Anyone see a pattern here?
I thought that NSA had everything...and even if it didn’t, nothing is ever lost and can be found by the Microsoft types in the recipient’s computer if not the original computer.
“I’ve put Tommy on the trail of the missing emails and if anybody could destr, er, I mean, find them, it’s him. “
Are you nuts. That’s like, six years ago, dude.
The IRS’s Visio file is a little different; it includes a WOM (write-only memory) server array for document destruction.
