'He’s just absolutely ignoring the Constitution': Republican Representative says there's 'probably'

President Barack Obama has acted so unlawfully that he 'probably' wouldn't survive an impeachment vote in the House of Representatives, Republican Rep. Lou Barletta told a radio host on Monday.

'He’s just absolutely ignoring the Constitution, and ignoring the laws and ignoring the checks and balances,' the Pennsylvania lawmaker told News Radio 910 WSBA personality Gary Sutton yesterday.

'The problem is, what do you do?' Barletta continued. 'For those that say impeach him for breaking the laws or bypassing the laws — could that pass in the House? It probably could.'

'Is the majority of the American people in favor of impeaching the president? I’m not sure about that.'

'I don't think so,' the Pennsylvania radio host can be heard telling Barletta in audio of their conversation captured by Buzzfeed's Andrew Kaczyinski.

Barletta made the comments during a discussion on illegal immigration after Sutton argued that the president wasn't 'faithfully executing the laws of this country.'

'Well we have a president that has taken this to a new level,' Barletta said of Obama's actions before explaining how he thinks impeachment proceeding would hypothetically play out in the House.

Make the case. Build public support. Make the Senate vote. Then make any “no” votes be millstones around their neck.

That's right. Impeachment is precisely making the case. We complain about the captive media that refuses to expose the high crimes. In the House chamber, there is no place to hide.

Then why hasn't Congressman Barletta introduced articles of impeachment in the House?

Those are numbers before the case has been made. You don’t know what they will be afterwards. If you have no stomach for the fight stay out of the way and don’t spread defeatism.

Spot on. Nobody saw John Dean coming.

Why do you think Nixon resigned? Do you know?

If we get the votes this November, it will work. If we don’t get the votes, it will never work.

If you want the November election to be a referendum on Obama, then get the Articles of Impeachment working in the House now!

Also, if you are defeated, do the rest of us a favor and stop aiding and abetting.

How does doing ones duty figure into this? Are we reduced to analyzing the faults and foibles of our elected representatives and the propagit machine, and then wringing our hands and raising the white flag?

Knowing the enemy and anticipating him is one thing. Conceding victory to him, in the midst of the battle, is quite another.

Allowing the most lawless President ever to escape unscathed is yet another. Being paralyzed by the fear of failure is no excuse for the dereliction of OUR duty.

My typically long reply was entirely centered on the idea that the ground for impeachment must be prepared and it has not been done so. The failure for which is the fault of the media and of the Republican Party. I said:

Most of America was unaware of Obama's Communist affiliations in 2008 and remain unaware of them today. It was the job of the media to reveal those affiliations but they would not because they were committed to a "higher cause." The Republican opposition would not do so because they were thoroughly intimidated. Both institutions failed the nation. The Republican failure has visited baleful consequences on the nation ever since. We conservatives on FreeRepublic were fully aware of Obama's radical biography and many of us declared in 2008 that the only way juggernaut could be stopped was to "morally destroy" Barack Obama by revealing him to be the communist he was and still is. Republican timidity resulted in two elections of Barack Obama and there is no reason to conclude that Republican timidity will not extend to occasions to impeach Barack Obama. Indeed, the Republicans have failed effectively to oppose even those policies most repugnant to Republican principles…

It is only foolhardy to try to accomplish with a Hail Mary pass that which could not be accomplished because blocking and tackling were ignored.

I am a simple man and have to live my life by simple ways. I have never regretted doing the next right thing. I can always find a good reason to not do the next right thing. Sometimes, doing the next right thing seems to be harmful to me.

But, I do have a clear understanding in my own mind of what is right and what is wrong.

I am starting to believe that I am out of my element in The Political World.

If men were angels, no government would be necessary. Af angels were to govern men, neither external nor internal controls on government would be necessary.

James Madison, Federalist #51

I do not think you are out of sorts with the times and I do not think your moral gyroscope is faulty. I think we live in a world that is best explained by the metaphor of original sin.

"Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves."

Just because we are unavoidably in the political world does not mean we have to be of it. There are days when I too despair. I think a righteous man such as you, and I would like to think myself, must understand that we can affect the political system but we cannot change human nature-the left has taken on that job, to everyone's sorrow.

Interesting comparison of two Dictators when losing became inevitable:

* Hitler’s Fast tracking of Death Camps and

* Obama’s Fast flooding of Illegal Alien Invaders from Mexico.

IMHO: both Dictators saw their fast actions efforts as THE FINAL SOLUTION.

It’s the unrelenting drone of cynicism and defeatism - the constant gloom and doom, that is getting on my last nerve.

Sports analogy - Pre game interview, the football Coach says, “Well, my team has no talent and they proved to me this week in practice that, not only are they terrible athletes, they don’t even know how to play football. We are looking forward to a sound thrashing on the field today.”

Wouldn’t that be ridiculous?

Ronald Reagan would be ashamed of this generation of “conservatives.”

The problem the anti impeachment wing of FR has is literally one of situational ethics. They are not promised a win so they accept the ‘lesser evil’ of doing nothing.

It is rather interesting how very often that happens. Either they are promised a victory or the law and justice can sit down and wait until they are.

How very liberal of them.

Folks, the House is REQUIRED to impeach REGARDLESS of what the Senate does. If a HCAMM has in their opinion occurred, they swore an oath to do it. Period. Not an Obama one. A real one. If they do not, they are protecting a criminal. Political considerations do not trump constitutional considerations.

Those that want to live in a country where it does should look out their windows and like it.

Thanks for taking the time for these good thoughts on the end of the thread.

It was replaced by the belief that lesser evil is an acceptable substitute. And that is why I fight so hard to reverse that bit of ‘settled science’ in the mindset of the right wing.

We simply cannot hold those two diametrically opposed ideas and believe them both true.

Journalists are gullible, and when surprised by REALITY they claim to be “cynical.”

High-information voters are skeptical, and are rarely surprised by REALITY.
