White House spokesman Josh Earnest stonewalled reporters Monday, seeking an explanation for the administrations Friday-night claim that a computer crash wiped out all the emails between IRS chief Lois Lerner and other agencies, including the White House.
Youve never heard of a computer crashing before? Earnest told a reporter during a brief press gaggle while flying back to D.C. from President Barack Obamas fundraising trip to California.
A good faith effort has been made to find the missing emails, he said.
Skepticism about the administrations claim is indicative of the kinds of conspiracy that are propagated around this story, Earnest scoffed.
The claimed loss of emails have evoked much ridicule from GOP leaders, who argue that normal computer networks store backups of emails. Ridiculous. #WH has to get serious, reads a tweet from Reince Priebus, the chairman of the Republican Party.
From 2010 onward, Obamas IRS officials used their tax power to cripple fundraising and advocacy at many Republican-leaning tea party groups before the 2012 election.
IRS official Lois Lerner played a central role in the suppression effort, but has refused to explain how the scheme began, and if the White House was involved.
Administration officials promised to send copies of Lerners emails to House GOP investigators. But they now say they have no copies of her messages to and from senior officials in other agencies, because her computer crashed.

Basically, the corrupt, deceitful, horrible people in the White House are saying, “Hey, we wouldn’t lie to you, honest! If you don’t believe me, just ask me again!”
BS.
They are asking us to believe that the file-server running the email service literally went up in smoke - along with ALL the backup tapes??!!
How is this level of obfuscation NOT criminal?
If I "lose" my entrance ticket on the Mass Pike and go one exit, I pay the maximum amount on the ticket.
In the same vein, if Lerner's evidence can't be produced, then the entire white hut, IRS, and throw in the rest of them as well, should go to prison.
The real explanation is not a crashed computer. This detailed explanation of how the IRS system does not make it possible to save emails is ENLIGHTENING. IT USES A SELF PURGING SYSTEM BY THE FOLLOWING MEANS...
They really take us for complete a$$holes. Actually, they’re partially right. Half the country is an a$$hole - the half that voted for the current administration.
We all need to stop paying taxes.......oh we can’t!
because we are slaves to the state masters!!!!
Without belaboring the point, I've made the case very succinctly in other threads that this just isn't true. Besides the very obvious violation of numerous records retention policies in place since the 1970s, I can personally tell you that the federal government has backups EVERYWHERE. It would take a monumental, concerted effort for a group of people to wipe all copies of this data, and even then, I bet there are stubs or scratch files somewhere with the data in it.
What’s that phrase? Willing suspension of disbelief... Yeah, that’s the one.
is this satire? Do we live in at Banana Republic where we must believe are great leader scored 30 under par on 18 holes of golf? how long did it take for us to be labeled conspiracy theorists?this is the most impossible story I have heard in the past 6 years, and that is really something!
This is why there have been no tax audits for those years - they lost everyone’s tax information in the computer crash too.
Simply amazing. We have an administration brazenly involved in, amongst other things, evidence tampering, conspiracy to obstruct justice, and failure to comply with lawful subpoenas. And yet not one legislator appears to be doing a damned thing about it.
Then they claim that they recycled backup tapes every 6 months... from an agency that requires us to keep records for 7 years...
This would totally fail a Sarbanes-Oxley audit.
Imagine ... if you will ... a dimension of time and space where this was said to the MSM by the press secretary of George W. Boooosshh ....
When the .gov comes calling on me for what ever reason,,,
I will use these same pathetic excuses on them with a straight face and say sorry. . .
“But they now say they have no copies of her messages to and from senior officials in other agencies, because her computer crashed.”
Do these jerks thing anyone will actually believe this? Emails are stored on the server, not solely on her machine. Even if the server crashed, there is a backup, or transaction records that can reconstruct all the mail.
So.....Computer crash deniers.
We’re getting a lot more “josh” than we are “earnest”.
And there are those who claim to believe it only because they support the criminality of this admin -
they love the idea of the government being used to punish opposition and then being able to dare anyone to do anything about it.
I don’t think he is intentionally trying to fool the citizenry. He is actually stupid enough himself to believe that a crash of Lerner’s computer alone would wipe out all evidence of her emails. If he doesn’t understand corporate email technology, he should check with someone who does before doubling down on the embarrassingly idiotic pc crash excuse.
At least Powerline’s blog should get the facts straight, IRS mail servers are not Outlook servers, outlook is a mail client not a server. The server is called Microsoft Exchange.
