Does anybody remember a term coined (I think by Nixon) called “Vietnaminization”?

Whereby as US forces slowly pull out and empower South Vietnamese forces to fill our vacuum? We saw that crumble like a house of cards.

Well, since 1973 what have we learned? Anybody? Really? Nothing? All those lives & resources, all that debt? OK so Bush tried to create change in the Arab world starting in Afghanistan and in Iraq. It worked for a short period before petering out.

The Arab world was shocked and awed by Bush the “Cowboy”, there was, R-E-S-P-E-C-T. Syria pulled out of Lebanon and America's friends and enemies tipped their hats (or Kaffiyehs).

Now, seeing the President lift barbells? His red lines in the sand, backed up by his now famous grimace? Oh, how pathetic does he (we) look on the world stage? Terror unhinged, unchecked and winning. Oh, I forgot, Obama killed Osama...

You are wrong, that’s the myth. Vietnamization was working. The DEAL was we would continue to supply them with supplies and air power as needed. If we had kept our part of the deal Saigon would not have fallen. The NVA invaded with more armor then then was at the battle of Kursk. US air power would have completely destroyed it. When we turned our backs that’s when the ARVN was overwhelmed and list.

Yeah, I remember “Vietnamization” very well-—and how well it worked. Nixon forgot the south part and it turned out to be commie vietnamization, which by all accounts, is driving the Chicoms nuts.

I’ve spoken with several South Viet Nam soldiers who said they were over run because democrats cut off funding. One guy said he only had enough fuel to fly directly to a target and back. He said the North Viet Namese would move their camp. He could see them but didn’t have the fuel to get there and back to base. There was hand to hand fighting on a bridge leading into Saigon because the soldiers ran out of ammo. Saigon fell because democrats abandoned them and Ford didn’t have the balls to say “Screw you, dems! We’re not going to allow this to happen.” Obama is going to let Bagdad fall.

It wasn't Nixon's Vietnamization.

Vietnam fell when a large number of leftist Democrats entered the House of Representatives and voted to cut off funding to Vietnam. Vietnam, like Iraq, could have resisted and retained some measure of stability if the United States, under Democratic Party governance (even though Ford was President), had supported the southern government.

It was shameful then and shameful now.

Ford and Carter and the Dems abandoned Vietnam. Clinton abandoned Iraq after Bush I, and Obama abandoned Iraq and Afghanistan after Bush II.

Shaemful.
