A cheerleader for the Russian Revolution in the early 20th century and a leader in the labor movement during the Depression; hounded during the McCarthy era and orphaned after the fall of the Soviet Union, the Communist Party USA on Friday returned to Chicago, the city of its birth.
Given the movement's history, some might wonder why anyone would want to be a communist.
But the more than 300 adherents who came to celebrate the party's 95th anniversary at the University of Illinois at Chicago see it the other way around: Who wouldn't want to be a member?
Among them was Susan Gosman, who on the opening day of the convention stood in front of sign-in sheets divided by decades. Delegates were asked to mark the one during which they were radicalized. "For me, it would be 1944," she said. "The year I was born."
Gosman is a "red-diaper baby," as a communist born to communist parents is known. Her father took part in the 1930s sit-down strikes in automobile plants that won autoworkers a union. But it also got him in trouble during the 1950s. That meant tough times when she was growing up, and her parents cautioned her about the perils of following their political path.

CONGRATS Communist Party USA Endorses Barack Obama and Democrats For 2012 Election
They are meeting in Chicago? Who would have thought it?
Hey Communist Party USA, why don’t you go to talk to the Russian and German people who lived under it for decades and see what they have to say about it. It didn’t work then and it won’t work now because it flies against the very nature of Man and his inalienable rights as a human being. Communism is slavery and setup to enrich the self-appointed masters who don’t live by the same rules. It will never work and you are idiots to think it could. You have been deceived.
And why not, after all they now control the highest
offices in the land...opposed only by an impotent
congress and a handful of Americans, they have infiltrated
our schools, our civic organizations and our courts...
Ron Kuby would. He calls DeBlasio ‘comrade’ Mayor. Very smart guy (and well paid)and he absolutely endorses Communism.
Easy. They all think they're going to be part of the leadership who gets to control what others get. It's part of the lure of communism.
CPUSA is redundant. We have the Democrats. They have succeeded where the Commmunists never could have.
And to think, after all their years of toil accomplished nothing, the libtards then gave them the greatest victory possible, the ruination of what, was once, the greatest nation in the history of civilization. Like scoring a goal off the refs rump.
I just don’t understand why any thinking adult would want communism. I can’t think of anywhere it has worked out well. Am I missing something? What is the attraction?
Communism is officially atheistic, and will never prevail against a deity driven system whether that be islam or Judeo-Christianity.
(I’m hoping for the latter.)
“Most slaves do not yearn for freedom, they yearn to be masters.”
Evan hillary’s dumped communism for islam (via huma).
Communist Party USA is a completely redundant organization, a carbon copy of the Democratic Party, and members can easily switch parties without a single change of ideology. Notice how we never see the Democratic Party in conflict with its factions, like we do with the Republican Party. Communist, Democratic, Green, Workers, Occupy..., are all from the same piece of political and philosophical dung.
