Theres been an interesting, but largely overlooked development in the New Hampshire GOP Senate primary race this week. One of the candidates, Karen Testerman, has dropped out of the race and tossed her support to former Senator Bob Smith, issuing the following statement.
It is time for all of us to put aside pride and focus on our greater GOAL, that of fighting for Family, Faith and Freedom. I will not force our principle-driven primary voters to make a self-defeating choice. After much prayer and consultation, I will step aside to allow Senator Bob Smith to be the ONLY conservative name on the primary ballot.
Senator Smith has a well-earned reputation of standing firm for our conservative beliefs and values and for fighting Washington to stop their overreach. Bob Smith was TEA Party before it had a name.

Bob Smith ? The Bob Smith who went nuts after he lost his Senate job and endorsed John Kerry for President ? That Bob Smith ? NH badly needs some new political blood instead of these old retread losers.
God bless her. Too bad there isn’t more integrity like this when dealing with first-past-the-post elections.
Bob Smith has no chance of winning in November.

Thanks fieldmarshaldj.

Are you telling us Bob Smith is New h
Hampshire’s version of Charlie Crist? Tan and all?
"Integrity" is urging people to vote for a Republican who endorsed John Kerry? (Unless good ol' fieldmarshaldj is wrong, which he probably isn't)
Not "integrity." STUPIDITY. It is stupid to keep voting for leftist Republicans on the false pretense that "hurts" leftism.
Heh. Not exactly. Smith once was a good pol. Sadly, once he left DC, he went around the bend. Remember he moved to Florida and tried to run for the Senate down there. That he is being seriously promoted again for office 18 years after his last win is absurd. He’s also 73 years old. We need younger people running ! He’s been running for office since 1982.
Just to confirm that he did, I present the DailyKOS article from 10 years ago...

Wow, I can understand the guy who goes all Howard Beale.
But . . . John Kerry?! And I thought Bob Barr went nuts after going from social conservative to conspiratorial libertarian.

well well, ole Scotty shoulda stayed conservative instead of caving
He didn’t cave as much as ole Bobby did.
And Barr is seeking his comeback in GA as we speak, another guy who went ‘round the bend after losing his seat (and hopefully will be defeated in the upcoming runoff).
I'm disillusioned with the Republican Party. I think it's beyond repair.
As long as Scott Brown doesn’t win, I am happy, he is not even remotely a conservative, he huge around with Kerry his whole time in office.
I wasn’t even aware that Smith was around (and I am in soviet Red Hampshire) until Karen withdrew the other day. I would have voted for her, but will NOT vote for Brown if he is the nominee.
Red Hampshire (the drunkest state in the nation) will be choosing the GOP nominee before you know it...stock up on popcorn.
Possibly. He was mad he had been forced out for John Sununu, Jr. (when it was pretty inevitable he was going to lose a general election against Jeanne Shaheen). Maybe he thought Kerry would throw him a bone with a plumb Cabinet posting.
