I knew it when the 2002 election results were in. American voting habits changed almost not at all. Since then, it’s been whistling past the graveyard.
For all we know Osama bin Laden is leading the charge.

Osama Bin Laden won when mosques were operating on September 12, 2001. America had lost the will to defend itself; the losses in Iraq and Afghanistan were just theater. Today the Third Worlders pour across our borders, and the heirs of the founders do nothing about it; they’ve been lulled into complacency with bread & circuses, food stamps, and marijuana. Now they devote their energies to pets and the causes du jour that have replaced the WASP ethic that built this country...
And in that part of the world he was the best we could ever hope for. We pretty much poked ourselves in the eye with all those purple fingers.
Obama is doing what Bin Laden could never pull off. Single handedly placing a nation state at al Qaeda’s feet.
The USA would spend and keep the world safe while taking away the freedoms and liberty of their own country.
It was the natural positions of the politician to try to be more hard line and the ‘Great American’. Instead of realizing the limitations of force and power from the beginning.
But, but...Obama likes these people. And he likes the Iranians, too. From his point of view - bummer that these people can’t get along. Too bad he had to have Bin Laden offed, but political exigencies, election coming up - well, you know.
Obama knows who his enemies are - the anti-abortion, anti-gay marriage, religious Christian folks - yeah those guys. Gotta get the FBI after them.

Pains me to say it, but I remember thinking that Bin Laden won the day after the Boston Marathon bombing, when tanks were rolling down residential streets and armed officers were “asking” citizens out of their homes at gunpoint.
He won the MOMENT we passed the Patriot Act. Anything after that doesn’t much matter. It’s just part of the defeat for us.
The first mistake we made was when we framed our actions post 9-11 in defensive (Afghanistan) and altruistic (Iraq) terms, instead of unabashed punitive and retaliatory ones. This turned out to be a minor mistake because the persecution complex that Islamists possess, caused them to see everything as punitive and retaliatory anyway, especially when, unlike during the Clinton presidency, we were willing to put boots on the ground and shed blood. I think this cowered them a bit. Until.........
....the second mistake was made-electing a Democrat. Liberals are afraid of our enemies, and don’t understand that respect can only be achieved by making them fear us. Obama has squandered all the respect that was gained by our willingness to shed blood to punish our enemies. He believes, as all liberals do, that showing we are harmless will protect us, when it only emboldens them further.
It means Osama Bin Laden won - or that Obama threw the game. I'm going with Obama threw the game...
