Germanys president says his compatriots shouldnt always reject deploying the military to help resolve conflicts as he underlines calls for the country to take more international responsibility. [ ]
President Joachim Gauck told Deutschlandfunk radio in an interview broadcast Saturday that he understands Germans longstanding reluctance to take a leading international role, but the country is now a solid and reliable democracy. He said that in defending human rights and innocent lives it is sometimes necessary to take up arms.

Except that the German military is a hollow shell of its former self, and probably couldn't deploy anywhere without U.S. support. Just like the rest of NATO.
Germany’s current defense minister was a housewife in Palo Alto for a number of years. Her top priority is improving day care for the children of German soldiers.
Wasn’t it illegal for Germany to build up its military for a certain amount of time after the war?
Whereas ours is making sure gay pride parades are supporte by soldiers and uniforms don’t discriminate against transvestites.

You don’t seem to know their background. In spite of that, they have had the most foreign military deployments in the world behind the USA, for quite a few years.
They don’t (or didn’t) openly speak of war for the same reason Japan’s got that pacifist constitution.

The Bundeswehr is second only to the US in terms of foreign military deployments. They’ve been in Afghanistan for ages and they’ll be there after Obama surrenders the “war of necessity”.
