Our billions were apparently only hired someone to hold a gun in peacetime, not professional soldiers who would fight.

None of ISIS’ political goals require restraint. The opposite is true. The type of recruits they want are turned on by this type of stuff, and their enemies melt away before them in terror. There will be literally millions of beheadings and rapes if Iran doesn’t step in soon.

To all Iraq War vets from this Vietnam War vet, welcome to the club.
Those serving in both wars have watched the political class walk away from our commitments, squander our meager gains and abandon those who stood beside us to a terrible fate and the harsh reality that the United States is not to be relied upon or feared.
It is impossible to ignore the comparison of Saigon on the eve of the North Vietnam occupation on April 30, 1975 and Baghdad on June 12, 2014. Some of us will always remember the photos of the scramble to board helicopters atop the roof as the last of the U.S presence was withdrawn. I am confident Iraq vets will be haunted by their own symbols if things turn out, as it appears today they will, in Baghdad.
In the case of Vietnam the U.S. failed to enforce the Paris Peace Treaty when December 13, 1974 North Vietnam invaded the south at Phuoc Long, predictable after the passage of the Case-Church Amendment the previous year. As for Iraq, failure of the U.S. to reach a new status of forces agreement with the Iraq government left no means to influence events on the ground leading to the current insurgent offensive.
Both demonstrate the absence of political will. No matter the arguments regarding the justification or methods of conduct of these wars the result for those South Vietnamese and Iraqis who tied their futures to the U.S. proves devastating.
In Southeast Asia friends of the U.S. suffered relocation, reeducation camps and deaths numbering hundreds of thousands; in Iraq they may very likely lose their head.

“He added that given the gravity of the situation, he would anticipate “timely decisions” from President Obama in tackling the challenge.”

As soon as he finds out about it in the paper.

This looks promising:

“The plan consists of intensifying the deployment of forces, and increasing intelligence efforts and the use of technology such as [observation] balloons and cameras and other equipment,” ministry spokesman Brigadier General Saad Maan said.”

They are going to run around like mad, try to get a clue, play with balloons and take some selfies. That ought to do it.

Odd, I thought the UN stated yesterday that they weren’t worried about ISIS. Funny how a few thousand severed heads will affect your outlook on that sort of thing.

All those weapons from Libya that we sent to Syria along with our training up the anti-Assad terrorists is really paying off now in Iraq.

Meanwhile Herr Obozo and his Wookie have other important plans!

Amid Foreign and Domestic Crises, Obama Plans to Fundraise and Golf This Weekend

The Iraqi government is pleading for help from the U.S. as ISIS militants close in on Baghdad; Syria is still in the grips of war; veterans are dying from long wait times at the VA; and we’ve got a humanitarian crisis going on at the Southwest border.

With all this at the forefront, you’d think the president would work tirelessly to address these problems. Alas, he’ll be doing what he does best this weekend: fundraising and golfing.

President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama should land at Palm Springs International Airport at about 6 p.m. Friday, straight from a visit to the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation in North Dakota.
At approximately 8:30 a.m. Saturday, they’ll jump over to Laguna Beach for a Democratic National Committee fundraiser, followed by the commencement address to UC Irvine’s Class of 2014 at Angel Stadium, which wraps up at 1 p.m.

That puts the Obamas back in the desert at about 2 p.m. Saturday. They will stay for Father’s Day, before flying home to Washington, D.C., mid-morning on Monday. It’s unclear if their daughters, Malia and Sasha, will tag along.

What is Obama’s plan here in the Coachella Valley? Presumably a short vacation, and likely a round of golf or two – though the details remain fuzzy.

Priorities.
