Obama is not worried. He knows the media will be in full “blame Bush” mode, and libs are already shifting away from their usual “religion of peace” stance towards Islam to something more like what you would see in FR, i.e., “It was crazy to think we could turn Iraq into a stable democracy; after all, Muslims have been killing each other for hundreds of years. All they understand is dictatorship.”
Actually, Biden might be the most correct of all. I believe he said Iraq should be split into three countries.
It looks like it will go that way. Only troubling thing may be the Kurds getting cleansed with Turkey/Iran/Syria/Iraq becoming the next caliphate.

The point is, quite precisely, this: it makes absolutely NO difference what Iraq is “split” into - the terrorist mob will take it over and possess it.

Heck, the way every thing else Obama has done has gone to crap, he might be right.

Actually one of those three countries might have wanted US bases to stay in them. The way we are now, hundreds of Americans are stuck in Baghdad with no US support nearby.

It didn’t take a MENSA member to figure that out. Some of us here on FreeRepublic were predicting a disastrous end for Iraq all the back in 2003.
The hatred that exists between Sunni and Shi’ite factions will consume the entire region for generations more. It took brutal secularist leadership under Saddam Hussein and the Assads to keep this from boiling over, but now that they are either gone or weakened, there will be no stopping it, and the forces are roughly equal on a large scale. They are also equally counter-balanced by external support from Saudi Arabia and Iran. If there were no oil involved, it would be best to quarantine the region and allow them all to fight to the slow death. That process would become steady-state and would keep the forces of global Islam concentrated inward rather than outward. It’s oil that complicates everything, and forces us to try to mediate or take sides. We should have stuck with what was working.
