Some asshat vandalized it a few years ago. I think it’s been repaired. Probably one of those “elements” that hated the guy.
Black ink with the word “Fascista” written on it.

Gee... now just WHO would write “Fascista”... on it...
It was in good shape last April when I was there. When I was taking a pic, the gf asked me “Who’s that?” And before I answered her, a passerby said nicely “Mayor Rizzo.”
Who would write that? Someone from 58th Streets and beyond? Although finding an inhabitant of that area that could spell that word would be virtually impossible. And to find someone from that area that could spell it and actually know what it means - completely impossible. Not happening from what I observed. It was like a 70s movie, but in real life.
That’s the “Italian Section” where “Rocky” ran down, right?
