That the putz is gone is victory enough.

Obama thought there were 57 states and flubbed many more important issues.

I have no doubt the man is with us in spirit and will forge excellent answers over the next few months.

Dave Brat's next scheduled interview is with Katie Couric.

“Brat seemed entirely unprepared to have to speak on issues of substance. In fact, he suggested – perhaps (hopefully) jokingly – that he thought Todd invited him on the program merely to celebrate his victory.”

My guess is that Brat was lied to and set up.

Todd is a slimeball. I would guess his people begged Brat to come on his show and promised it would just be congratulations on his upset win. Then Todd tries to trip him up and tells everyone in the MSM to report that Brat is stupid and can't answer questions.

Brat has to learn that MSM reporters are slimeballs. They will try to make him look bad and then define him as stupid.

Strikes me as odd that he can’t answer some basic economics questions on minimum wage. He’s a professor of economics, so he should be able to answer these in his sleep.

He needs to be aware, at all times, of the fact that the MSM is out to destroy all conservatives and will do anything to accomplish this.

That said, it was a minor incident, probably caused by post campaign fatigue. Hopefully he learned from it, and won't be caught off guard again.

Everyone running against an establishment candidate should pay attention to how he was able to win, in spite of having very little money and support from the GOP or the Tea Party.

As an example, I like how he phrases his positions on issues using simple terms and declaring them to be about free markets and the Constitution, not right vs left.

All 17 of MSNBC’s viewers saw the interview.

Ha! Not so. Reading the transcript up-thread Mr. Brat gave detailed answers.

Be cautious of any allegation aimed at a Conservative even from friendlies.

It looks like he got edited like Katie Couric's crew did to Sarah Palin.

I guess he won't expect a fair shake next time.

I happened to see that interview... For MSNBC, it was actually pretty good. Todd attempted to nail him down on the hard-hitting issues (Syria, etc), and the reference to celebrating the moment was apparently in jest. Brat suggested to Todd they schedule an in-depth interview and he’ll be happy to discuss those issues in depth.

He should have simply declined an MSNBC interview at this time, but, at least almost nobody saw it.

Good to see he’s not Slick Willy.

Perhaps he should have started crying, like Boehner.

I don’t agree and am wondering why you posted this article.

Sniff, sniff.

If you read the actual interview he gave very good answers and deflected when the scumbag tried to trap him. As to whether he should have gone on msnbc that’s debatable. Frankly I don’t think it was a bad choice. He is running for a seat in a central VA. He is part of that culture which puts more credence on honor and courage than on glib responses to ambush interview questions. Actually he probably scored a few points back home WHERE IT MATTERS for having the cajones to go on msnbc. Part of why the weasel got roasted was he was just a little too slick and glib for the district he allegedly represented.

Sigh. Some of us kinda figured this was going to happen.

Political novice gets pulled into an obvious ambush, speaks off the cuff with little time to prepare and because he’s tired gives ill-thought out responses that will be used against him all the way up to the general election.

It’s just a matter of time before they force him to declare on national tv that he’s not a “witch” too, which at that point you’ve already lost.

Somebody better get him a better press guy and scheduler, STAT.

“Not off to a good start.”

PERFECT START. Rather than risk putting his foot in his mouth, he chose to keep quiet on policy stuff. If other Republicans COULD LEARN THAT we would have won the Senate in 2012.

But, as I say, it doesn’t even matter - CANTOR LOST!!!!

that he thought Todd invited him on the program merely to celebrate his victory.

I hope that is a joke.

That is a problem with political inexperience. The media are pros at tripping them up. Learn fast, Brat. Stay away from the MSM.

He just needs a bit of media coaching. He could easily have deflected those questions by essentially saying what he said but choosing words and phrases that would've made him appear in control and not caught off guard.

Nothing major. Just a little tweaking.

“Would you be in favor of arming the Syrian rebels?” Todd asked.

Mistake number one: you don't walk into the enemy camp unarmed, even under a flag of truce.

The correct answer: "Let the U.N. decide what to do about Syria; Muslims killing Muslims is none of our business".

Disagree. He answered the minimum wage subject extremely well, but he host refused to hear it. He said that it’s insane not to tie wages to productivity, that arbitrarily setting wage levels is nutso.

So, whasisname either couldn’t or wouldn’t listen.

So far as arming Syrian rebels, Brat didn’t want to get into that stuff. He wanted to talk about winning the race. The host wanted to dampen the joy of the win for the 55% that had voted for Brat. Brat wouldn’t let him go there. Seems ok to me.
