Poll: Immigration didn’t doom Eric Cantor
Politico ^ | 6/11/14 | SEUNG MIN KIM

Opponents of immigration reform seized on House Majority Leader Eric Cantor’s shocking primary defeat Tuesday night as a clear referendum against a sweeping overhaul – particularly one that includes so-called “amnesty” for undocumented immigrants.

Not so fast – at least according to one new poll.

Democrats are making the case that it was Cantor himself – not immigration – that dealt a powerful blow to the one-time rising Republican star’s political career. And they are releasing new data on Wednesday to back up their argument.

About 72 percent of registered voters in Cantor’s district polled on Tuesday said they either “strongly” or “somewhat” support immigration reform that would secure the borders, block employers from hiring those here illegally, and allow undocumented residents without criminal backgrounds to gain legal status – three key tenets of an overhaul, according to a poll by the left-leaning firm Public Policy Polling and commissioned by the liberal advocacy group Americans United for Change.

And, of course, we should all believe whatever the Dims are peddling.

Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif) heralded the Cantor loss: “The tea party
defeated Republican leader Eric Cantor, who is one of the most
extreme members of Congress.”

"Eric, I'm glad you came to the amnesty strategy meeting w/ Nancy and me."

Was the question “Would you leave poor little children in the desert to die”?

That's probably one of them. Another is:

Do you support yankng nursing anchor babies from their mother's breast, throwing them in the street to starve, and deporting the illegal mothers?

I believe current law address well all three points. Only #3 requires applying for permanent residency (green Card) applications which must originate from a US embassy in the home country. It also sets an allocation of how many may immigrate from each continent.

yeah, I’m sure supporting a plan to give Amnesty to 40 Million Illegal Aliens while 50 million Americans are unemployed had nothing to do with it, they got EBT cards already, why would they be upset??.

Some can never get over being ignorant and stupid. Mostly, liberals and Democrats. Yes, some Republicans.

Actually, I think they’re right. That may have been the nail in his coffin, but he was unpopular personally and had been increasingly moving towards “reaching across the aisle” on everything, even the economic matters on which he had initially been very good.

GOP Congresscritters don’t retain their integrity very long once they get to DC, it seems.

Don’t you find it curious that the Democrats seem so concerned about a GOP congressman biting the dust and trying to find excuses other than the obvious one? Not really. We know the reason for the left’s concern for Cantor. With him being bounced last night the chances for an amnesty this year went up in smoke. The rest of the GOPe will be too scared to pursue this option now.
