For the first post-primary Wednesday this year, Im not having to poke holes in the pre-ordained MSM narrative for this campaign cycle, The Year of the Republican Establishment, wherein the Great Big Adults of the GOP were supposed to put down the unruly Tea Folk and position their pragmatic party perfectly for smashing victories in 2014 and maybe 2016 as well. Id say the Republican voters of the 7th congressional district of Virginia put that meme to rest for the immediate future.
Yes, in case you werent anywhere close to political news outlets (or Twitter, which exploded) last night, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, poised to inherit John Boehners gavel any old day now, and usually thought to be safely to Boehners right, was denied renomination by the Republicans of his district. By a 56-44 landslide. To a nobody that he outspent at least 20-1.
So now Randolph-Macon College economics professor David Brat is the GOP nominee for Congress in the 7th District, and unless Cantor chooses to roll the dice on a general election write-in campaign (which would, of course, kill his leadership career even if he won, and might even throw this strongly red district to a Democrat), hes history. And speaking of history, theres no recent precedent for a House or Senate Majority Leaders deposition in a primary. The closest analog is Newt Gingrichs (then serving as the number two Republican in the House) near-death experience in a 1992 primary immediately after a redistricting force him to move into unfamiliar territory. Two years later, Newt stood astride Washington like a colossus. Cantor can only imagine what might have been.

Not all good news
How Lindsey Graham Stomped the Tea Party(Grahamnesty gloats and so are the libs)Jun 10 2014, |
Cantor was more worried about Congress and Washington than taking care of his constituents. Good riddance.
Let this be a warning to the Weeper of the House - Your days as Speaker are numbered!
You’re right about Graham. I have been campaigning against him for two straight years. He’s a very good politician, slimy, slick, and can change colors on a dime.
He duped the republicans of SC once again but he’s not a sure thing in November.
Zombie Tea Party - tremble!
You have been on him for some time. You are probablly the happiest person Freerepublic today. Great call. Still more work to do.
Oh I can’t tell you how happy I am that we took down such an arrogant, elitest snake. I heard part of his concession speech on the radio this morning and couldn’t be more relieved that we won’t have to hear that boring, droning, moderate tone for much longer.

In a separate leading indicator of the political mood of the country, supplies of feathers and roofing tar seem to be drying up and Home Depot is flat sold out of wooden rails and the really rough hewn ones with lots of sharp splinters sold out the quickest.
what I really want to happen is that the Tea Party begins fielding their own candidates.
Start with an opponent against RINO Cornyn here in Texas
They did not fix it, now they must pay. Voters have had enough. It's called a "belly full of politics".
I hope the power brokers invested millions in grooming Cantor to be the turncoat he became. Now they have to start all over.
Observe. It is already happening. Don't you see?
No doubt about it---Cantor was the architect of his own catastrophic fall.
His arrogant "we got it made" attitude---so dismissive of tea partiers---proved to be his undoing.
His rudeness to callers was a sign of his contempt----in his mind he was "untouchable."
Cantor flaunted his contempt---attending the anti-Tea Party group's meeting.
No question, Cantor's pro-amnesty stance put the kibosh to his Congressional career.
Hasta la vista, senor. And don't let the cantina door bruise your sorry *** as you exit.
His throwing out the ‘impeach Obama’ line the other day is Grahamnesty's tricky style. He wont repeat it again. (I have no doubt that Grahamnesty believes that Obama had full authority to release those five terrorists.)
I been reminding freepers here for ~ 3 years how he pulled the same trick on amnesty(immigration),he dropped the line on a Sunday show ~ 2011 about changing the constitution over citizenship.
He mentioned it once and never again.(yet its all over the internet that Republicans re talking about it)
But there are fools who don't see his duplicity.
He's more of an ear bud than a speaker...
I kinda like to ponder the weeping and gnashing of teeth happening in Democrat circles——b/c they learned a very tough lesson, as well.
The Dummycrats already have to contend w/ their ill-advised votes on Obamacare-—and now voters are looking up their positions on amnesty.
My, oh my. Watta pickle they’re in. ROTFLOL.
