House Majority Leader Eric Cantor lost his Republican primary Tuesday in a stunning defeat to Dave Brat, a little-known tea party-backed challenger, in one of the biggest upsets in recent political history.
Mr. Brat, an economics professor at Randolph-Macon College who called his win a miracle, defeated Mr. Cantor by 56 percent to 44 percent with all precincts reporting. CNN and The Associated Press called the race just a little over an hour after Virginia polls closed at 7 p.m.
Obviously, we came up short, Mr. Cantor told supporters at his headquarters at the Westin Hotel in the state capital.
Its disappointing, sure, but I believe in this country. I believe theres opportunity around the next corner for all of us, he told the crowd.

Yes, I have no doubt that Cantor is upset.
No signs of a write-in. Good. More grace than that tool MurCOWski or Thad Cochran.
Let’s focus on the three outcomes of this. An opportunity to get a solid speaker when Bohner hangs up the gavel, momentum for the Tennessee senate race, and the end of amnesty this year at least.
LOL!
The Brat caused Cantor to sing a dirge.. in soprano..
wonder where he was kicked..
Moosecowsky should be hit by a truck..
This guy is upset too.
That is true, but this seems to me, to mean that just maybe the GOP can be saved.
So maybe, just maybe the Tea Party can take over the GOP in part, rather than actually ending up leaving, and going head to head with the old gang.
Of all the people I never expected to lose, Cantor was way, way up on that list.
This is very significant.
We should have a Senator Miller, but unfortunately, the GOP smiles upon fraud as much as the Dimocrats
The voters are to be applauded for their good judgment.
Democrats
I've been working in Virginia politics for a long time, but I've never seen anything like what happened tonight.
Seriously: House Majority Leader Eric Cantor just lost his primary to a Tea Party challenger. Eric Cantor -- Eric. Freaking. Cantor. -- is officially too moderate to win the nomination of the Republican Party. And the results are not even close!
The Tea Party isn't just alive and well -- it's taken wholesale control of the GOP.
We've got to stop these guys, and here's why: If they think that the House under Eric Cantor is too moderate, you can only imagine what Congress will look like if they win this November.
Chip in $3 or more right now, and help Democrats fight the Tea Party:

WE could only hope.
Meghan's show quoted a few Dems who were pretending to be pleased, but this is the opposite of how they truthfully feel.
Clearly the GOP, especially the traditional wing (I typically skip the "Tea Party" term) is energized, and so are the swings and indies, most of whom know that amnesty is neither legal nor constitutional and will raise crime and will cost jobs and would supplant the very traditions of our way of life.
.
The GOP-E Leadership in the US House, (Boehner, Cantor, and Ryan), is always gullible to Obamas tricks.
Consequently, Boehner, Cantor and Ryan, have all pledged to ram through this unpopular Obama Amnesty Bill due to Obamas illegal decision to flood the USA with children from Mexico and Central America.
It is time to kick the GOP-E out of Congressional Leadership!
Eric, don’t forget to sign up for Obamacare on your way out. You’re little people now.
All of the millions that Cantor had didn’t help him in the primary. Let them give his Dem opponent money under the table. As Dave Brat said, “dollars don’t vote, people do.”
