RICHMOND, Va. Dave Brat, a local economics professor, toppled House Majority Leader Eric Cantor on Tuesday night in the most shocking primary defeat since Republicans took the House in 2010.
The conservative challengers victory halts one of the most meteoric rises in national politics, and illustrates the strong anti-incumbent fever that has taken over Cantors Richmond-area district. Cantor is the second House incumbent to lose this primary season Texas GOP incumbent Ralph Hall was defeated by a tea-party backed challenger at the end of May.
Cantors defeat not only reorders Virginia politics, where Cantor was the highest-ranking Republican, but it completely throws the House Republican leadership into flux. Cantor, 51, was long seen as the next speaker of the House after John Boehner retires.

YES!! — but my God, I’m watching Fox tonight - they’re getting dumber and dumber the whole Tea Party V Estab thing, the electability thing, the Cantor can do a write in campaign thing.
Bret, Britt, Megyn, etc .WTF UP!!!!
It always has been. People just had to stop believing the LIE that ‘no matter what’ was an acceptable potion. They voted principle and won a huge victory for us all.
Boehner is done crying. He’s on the floor in a fetal position sucking his thumb.
Boo hoo! So annoying that Linda is going to win in SC. If that primary had been a week from now, he would lose.
Sure political parties can funnel money to any candidate. But if the Republican party sent money to a write-in candidate, they would lose even more support.
“Now Fox news is blaming the rain Bwahaaa
ITs the low turn-out doncha know...”
Yes, it was the brutal winter.
Woo hoo!
They are libs. Whats not to understand?
Hope this is for real and not another heart-breaker down the road, we’ve screwed over so many times of late.....
We stopped the amnesty push when Bush was President. We can do it again.
Reports on Twitter that Cantor’s internal polling had him up 34%.... Oops.
The Cantor write-in talk is offensive! It’s clearly a message to Cantor saying “we’ll help you keep this seat like Lisa Murkowski did.”
Maybe because it never happened.
You may be right, but suppose he is a write-in candidate.
People just write in his name, I don’t think that is illegal.
Virginia's 'sore loser' law could affect 5th District primary lineup
According to the Code of Virginia's section on candidates and elections (24.2-520),
candidates filing for a primary must sign a statement agreeing that if they lose, their
names cannot be printed on ballots for the general election. Meaning, if a candidate
in the Republican primary for the 5th District loses on June 8, he or she cannot run as a
third-party candidate in November.
Send the kids to Cantor’s office.
There ya go. No charge for that. Just another service I offer (snickers).
Thanks for the link. I’m now edumacated. Looks like VA has a sore loser law, but he could still be a write-in. Hopefully that won’t happen, but I just don’t trust these establishment clowns.
Monica Crowley is saying that no sitting house majority leader has lost since 1899.
Also hearing that Brat spent less that a half million to Cantor’s $5.4 million.
