Colorados marijuana market boomed in April as tens of thousands celebrated the once-underground 4/20 pot holiday. [ ]
An estimate from the Colorado Department of Revenue showed that Colorado made about $5.3 million from medical and recreational pot taxes and fees in April. Thats up from about $5 million in March.
Colorado made no estimate of 4/20 visitors. But pot shops in Denver had long lines the whole weekend, and at least 30,000 flocked to a city park to mark the marijuana celebration.

“(Badoom tish!)”??
Was that supposed to be a “BaDaBing”?
If it was it’s bad form to give yourself a BaDaBing. :)
Why does that sound like it’s not much?
And hopefully this will lead to lower taxes, especially for the middle and working classes and small farmers.
dream on
This is going to be mighty tempting for the politicians of all the other states to follow suit.
I hope at least some of them will be wise enough to wait until the Colorado and Washington experiment (which I don’t mind) is further along, to get answers the following questions...
- Does the number of users increase?
- What is the impact on:
* crime
* jail population
* traffic accidents
* employer’s experience with workers using pot
* school attendance, performance
* birth rates
* use of harder drugs
* state finances
And other unintended and unforeseen consequences.
I would want to give that experiment at least 10 years and then see whether:
1. it is harmless, like the libs and pot head claim (I may be repeating myself)
2. A net positive, like the libertarians claim
3. A net negative, like conservatives claim
Anybody want to make an early guess as to the outcome?
That's Colorado's fault not the pot's fault
But it is not a BaDaBing. It is a Badoom Tish.
Colorado, I will happily watch them melt down as they deserve
How is the state going to get the money?
Last I heard, while pot may be legal in Colorado and Washington, the pot shops have an impossible time getting banking facilities under Federal rules.
Maybe that has changed, I don’t know.
Probably no melt down. Just slow rot along with everybody else.
I smoked pot daily from 1971 to 1984
Never ever did what you claim to me...never once felt unpleasant actually
How many pot warriors here have ever smoked it?
Its hilarious....you guys hate the folks who smoke it...you think they are all libs
Yet we have drink and get drunk threads and folks bragging about being tipsy here like its aok
Its ridiculous.
Alcohol is exponentially more negatively consequential worldwide yet folks here who have never smoked marijuana in their life rail on rabidly from the perch of self righteousness
Likewise I have a friend in Traverse City MI right now dying of alcohol abuse related colon cancer who was told at age 47 he’s down to 3 months yet marijuana is all besides groggy phenagran that helps with chemo and avastin nausea....should he be deprived legal med weed to sate the reefer madness types here....and BTW...he’s a brave stoic some beach....inspiring...just wants enough energy day by day to keep restoring his cherry 57
And yes he detests Obama.....used to work in West Virginia mining
Pot is everywhere and has been for 40 years legalization doesn’t change that
And so far the price is still the same legal as illegal
Why not prohibit alcohol since folks here are so obsessed about public safety...naked girls too...another freeperdom bogeyman
Alienating right wing pot smokers does nothing for us.
You are partially correct though....ingesting THC products is an easy way to over intoxicate and folks don’t wait long enough and then take more when they shouldn’t
Alcohol kills 75000 folks a year in USA
Marihuana ...none from the drug itself but one can probably find some from impaired motor skills and accidents
So it goes back to my premise....those Freepers who rail over this equate pot smokers with leftism
And therefore they must not live in Dixie nor have they smoked much I’d wager....I know at least 100 right wing pot users
What do I think on legalization....against it...but in complete favor of decriminalization down to nuisance level
I have first offense friends with zero history of violence who have been in federal prison since the mid 80s for marijuana smuggling from Jamaica and Colombia
None of your pot warriors will ever convince me that draconian so called justice is just or conservative or should be espoused by those who love liberty
It has not changed....even medical pot giant Harbour Lights has issues finding banks that will handle their accounts due to DEA threats
The Feds hate losing this beaureaucratic goldmine that has been feeding gift careers and govt unions and advancing prosecutorial careers for 50 years now
Boo hoo cry me a river
They are barely less offensive than BATF in my book
And RICO and highway confiscations
Do Freepers really like all these encroachments?
The founders would not have but who cares about those old white guys anymore....
Liberal government doesn’t care where it gets the money from, only that it gets it.
It never saw a fee, transfer tax, sales tax, SPLOST, bond tax, income tax, school assessment tax, property tax, use fee, licensing fee or any other money stealing scheme that has ever existed that it did not like and use.
Thank you. I thought it hadn’t changed, but you know how it is - its a big world and you only get so much time to read.
And I agree. Law enforcement no longer is, nor has been for some years, “To protect and serve.” Both the laws written and the enforcers of said laws are mainly in it for the greenbacks. Or the kickbacks.
Never understood why the DEA were created in the first place. They do the same job as BAFT.
When whom they protect and serve is unspoken, then there are problems.
I was just saying that you said illegal sales had gone down and that hasn’t been the case.
This country has gone to pot.
The pot you smoked in the 70s is very different than what is available now. I was answering the comment that there are no increased medical costs etc with MJ, and that is simply not true. I see it all the time in the ED. You can be for or against legalized mj, but you cant ignore facts
As the mother of a substance abuse addicted child, and raising a granddaughter because both parents were using spice, a synthetic mj during pregnancy, I hate the legalization of this gateway drug. It makes kids think it is OK to get into drugs. My granddaughter was born dangerously underweight and still struggles in some areas due to moms drug use, and yet even after losing their child, both kids think mj is not harmful and that it even cures cancer. So dont tell me how wonderful your experience with mj was or how it didnt harm you - some people play with fire and get away unscathed. But that doesnt make fire any less dangerous.
I was thinking something along those lines. The pot today is very potent.
To them, the ends (keeping their phoney baloney jobs!) justify the means, always.
With more tax money, they can pay more gibsmedats, and have their own Free S**t Army come elections.
Between the stoners and the FSA, they are a shoo-in.
Pity, Colorado was a really nice state 30-40 years ago.
