Hillary Rodham Clinton's family was "dead broke" and saddled with legal bills when she and her husband left the White House, the former first lady said in an interview that aired Monday.
Republicans immediately seized on the comment and said it demonstrated that Clinton, the Democratic Party's strongest contender for its 2016 presidential nomination, was out of touch.
"We came out of the White House not only dead broke, but in debt," Clinton told ABC News. "We had no money when we got there, and we struggled to, you know, piece together the resources for mortgages, for houses, for Chelsea's education. You know, it was not easy."

After receiving $400,000/yr salary during a time when all they had to buy were clothes (if that much), they had an income of over $3.2 million yet hadn’t saved any? BTW, the liberals paid for the Clinton’s legal bills.

*shrug* Maybe so. I have discovered in all my years, and especially prosecuting some embezzlement cases, that people tend to love up to their income. Wouldn’t surprise me.

She can say they were “dead broke” because they launder all their money, bribes and payoffs through the “Clinton Foundation.”
Ah, that’s why they stole Two large moving vans of oil paintings, White House silver, and other valuables on their way out the door. They were afraid they would wind up in a homeless shelter.
I seem to remember that she bought a Washington Mansion for herself and together they bought another in Chappaquaw, NY. Of course, both were only a few million. When you’re flat broke that’s all you can afford.
And the dinner plates from Air Force One and some valuable White House antique furniture (some was returned when GSA blew the whistle on Hillary)....and that is just starters.
