Also, I just compiled a list of combined income and sales taxes by state, and Mississippi came out 44th...one of the highest combined rates in the nation. That doesn’t ring conservative to me, but I realize there’s more to it than that (gas taxes, property taxes, fees, fees, fees...).
I guess my point is that ranking states on any kind of freedom index seems quite challenging. I mean, can you really just go by voting history?
Yep. I own a house on 2 acres in Mississippi in a nice neighborhood. My annual property taxes are a little more than $200. That includes school taxes.
