My daughter's college, Seton Hall, had a self-defense class for incoming students. We had both our daughters take self defense courses before they left the nest. It helped my younger daughter last year. A guy tried to steal her purse. He got only bruised ribs although he maced her. He and his accomplice were caught by the police a week later. So stupid to commit crime on the streets of NYC - there are surveillance cameras in every business.
Good for you. Even some basic training will give you an edge. The "she can't beat a trained man in a stand up fight" meme entirely misses the point.
Of course she can't. But she doesn't need to do so.
People don't seem to understand that you don't have to beat your attacker to a bloody pulp. You just have to distract them or make them pause long enough for you to get away.
And since most attackers do not expect resistance even a small amount, especially if you know exactly which areas to attack, can give you those precious few moments.
