Educated and smart are different animals. Is this another “the northeast is smarter and better” story?

Some of the states they rank as “dumbest” are also the most stable, economically vibrant, and fiscally responsible. So who’s dumb, eh? Free enterprise guys or Marxists?

Can someone just post the damn list, and save us the trouble or going through 20 pages of crap? I stopped when I saw NY as one of the 10 "smartest" states.

Lemme guess...at least 9 of the 10 dumbest states is below the Mason-Dixon Line.

DC 90.91% Obama 2012
HI 70.55% Obama 2012
VT 66.57% Obama 2012
NY 63.35% Obama 2012
RI 62.70% Obama 2012
MD 61.97% Obama 2012
MA 60.65% Obama 2012
CA 60.24% Obama 2012
DE 58.61% Obama 2012
NJ 58.38% Obama 2012
CT 58.06% Obama 2012

One could reasonably argue that voting for Obama in 2008 was a simple case of ignorance - smart people who didn’t collect the information needed to make a better decision. Those who voted Obama is 2012 though? Colossal stupidity, almost beyond measure. Good people lose the most under Obama, but even the parasites who form his voting base are far worse off under FedGov’s inept socialism that has replaced the rule of law.

New Jersey -- number 6 on the smartest list

Not from what I can see in my neighborhood.

Depends on how people define intelligence. Nine out of the ten states with the highest SAT scores are from the midwest. Does that prove people there are smarter than the eastern states none of which finished close to the top ten? (snicker)

WTF? If New Jersey is one of the smartest states in the U.S., then I’m smarter than Einstein and wiser than Solomon. LOL.

I am temporarily trapped in soviet Red Hampshire, and there is NO QUESTION that they belong on the ‘dumb’ list. I noted that on another list, Red Hampshire is the #1 DRUNKEST state in the nation. No surprise when you consider Red Hampshire is the LEAST ‘religious’ in the country...Red Hampshire also features liquor stores at rest areas on their interstates; making it very easy to grab a bottle and hit the highway on your way to the beach in summer and the ski areas in winter.

Elizabeth Warren. Any state that would elect her to the Senate has to be the dumbest state in America.

If Cochran wins the runoff then I think that should move Mississippi from third dumbest to first.

This study is so full of statistical faults as to be worthless.
It is odd that people who say that IQ does not mean anything, and that SAT tests are “biassed”, will gladly accept trashy articles like this, if they seem to confirm their own prejudices.

There are different kinds of intelligence, which does not vitiate the observation that there is also such a thing as measurable general intelligence.

It is also true that natural talent is not the same as performance. We all know very talented people who makes messes of their lives, and do not harness their brains when making critical decisions.

It is very common for brilliant people to do (or believe) nutty things: this is particularly true if they are segregated into a culture removed from life experience, such as a university, or a seminary. The editors of Reason magazine are unquestionably very intelligent people, and yet most of them actually voted for Obama! In other words, they flunked an easy test.

I know some very simple, modest people, who occasionally come out with quite profound observations. It is a great experience to have this happen.

Wow. Not too kind to people below the Mason-Dixon. But don’t let it get you down. You still have William Faulkner, Flannery O’Connor and all that.

The study measures how much more money is dedicated to “higher education” and median income. There seems to be a disconnect between happiness and a need to keep pinheads employed stuffing little brains full of mush. Culture, population demographics and freedom of lifestyle all fail to get into the measurement.

Not much of a study unless you accept their premise.
