My Dad was at the other invasion of France, Operation Dragoon, August, 1944. He landed at Alpha Beach (Cavalaire-sur-Mer.) The Third ID made their way through rural countryside in France. He said the French farmers and small-townspeople he met were the warmest and most welcoming of all the Europeans he encountered; just like small town Americans.
