Florida Sen. Marco Rubio has made his intentions clear as he hit the campaign trail with Jodi Ernst on the eve of the crowded Iowa GOP U.S. Senate primary.
First, he hopes to help Republicans gain control of the U.S. Senate, either in the midterm elections or in 2016, and that has led to him stumping for Ernst, The Des Moines Register reported. The primary in Iowa is Tuesday.
Second, after taking a back seat last year as a potential GOP candidate for president, Rubio is pondering his political future and that may lead to him taking a shot at the White House.
Although Rubio rarely makes endorsements, hes made an exception with Ernst, an Iowa state senator who is facing four other Republicans seeking the party's nomination for the seat of retiring Democratic Sen. Tom Harkin.
I just really felt like we would make an exception in this case because there's such an exceptional candidate running here, Rubio told the Register.
This is not just having an Republican nominee, it's the hope of electing someone to the U.S. Senate who isn't just going to be someone that votes the right way but is someone who's actually going to make a difference."
Rubio noted that Ernst, a military commander in the Iowa Army National Guard, will bring "tremendous credibility" to national security issues, while adding that she proved her voting record in the state legislature. "She's not just against Obamacare, she's voted against it," Rubio said.

Just read the posts here any time anybody with a Spanish last name is mentioned. Makes me sick.
Immigration needs control, but the only people who have attacked us are not Mexicans, but people from Islamic countries...who are LEGAL immigrants. Obama actually took away from the Latin American quota to allow more people from the ME.so, yes, immigration does need reform, and that’s what Rubio was trying to offer. If you don’t agree with his plan, write to him and make suggestions.
fooled me to vote for your sorry ass as one of my senators.
I will NOT vote for you under ANY circumstances again, marco ya dog.
OK please explain to me how a man that sided with Schumer and pushed Amnesty is a good anything but Democrat. I am serious. I am not trying to be a smart ass. I want to know how you arrive at that conclusion. Because my understanding of conservatism does not include advocating an invasion because I share ethnicity with the invaders.
Odd that considering the love Cruz gets from 99.9% of freepdom. How to you correlate the two?
He did not make a mistake. He used his conservative credentials, and influence to thwart a backlash against the amnesty bill that was working its way through the Senate. Rubio was everywhere telling anyone who would listen, he would not support a bill that did not secure the borders first. This caused a cautious lull in opposition, and allowed the Senate to rush the bill through just as people were waking up, and discovering Rubio had lied, and the bill he supported was a Democrat/illegal alien wet dream. Sorry, I will never support another liar.
That is absolute garbage.
"Immigration needs control, but the only people who have attacked us are not Mexicans, but people from Islamic countries...who are LEGAL immigrants."
I don't think we should allow anyone from Muslim countries into the U.S., but that's irrelevant to the fact that giving amnesty to all of these Mexican illegals, and allowing their families to come in, will change this country forever. The vast majority of them want government handouts, and will support Democrats, which will ensure a permanent Dem majority.
Now it might make you feel warm and fuzzy and tolerant and all to ignore that truth, but ignoring won't change it.
" Obama actually took away from the Latin American quota to allow more people from the ME.so, yes, immigration does need reform, and thats what Rubio was trying to offer. If you dont agree with his plan, write to him and make suggestions."
It needs no reform at all. The laws on the books just need to be enforced.
I’m talking about immigrants and average people, not politicians. Although I have seen a lot of nasty comments about Bush’s Mexican wife. Btw, I don’t think Bush would be good and I wouldn’t support him because he’s become very big government, but criticizing him because his wife is Mexican is ridiculous. Go back and look at some of the threads.
Also, Cruz is an Evangelical, which thereby makes him ok and non-Hispanic with FReepers.
Lo siento, señor Rubio, ¡Pero, no!
That’s some tortured rationalizing right there.
On of the great things about most of the conservatives on FR is that they don’t let a person’s race color their view of them. They let a persons actions inform their opinions.
It may shock you to know that many of the staunchest anti illegal types here on FR have many friends, wives, parents and children from other countries. Some were even naturalized themselves. We simply don’t give a damn what color someone is or where they come from as long as they do it legally...and without supporting America’s destruction through liberal BS.
Forget it.
I voted for him, once. He told us one thing on immigration and turned around on Spanish TV and said the opposite, in Spanish, when he thought no one was listening. Oops.
I have a rule for all politicians: They are scoundrels until proven otherwise. When proven otherwise, they must make regular installments of proof. When proven a scoundrel...forget it, they are done, rotten and no good.
Will not vote for the Rubio Amnesty Express.
“The perfect is the enemy of the good.
Remember, if a few million conservatives had been realistic and voted for Romney, we wouldnt have had four extra years of Obama. John Kerrey would not be our Secretary of State. There would be no Holder at DOJ. The Keystone Pipeline would be under construction. Rubio is much better than Romney. You can listen to him without dozing off, for one thing. I hope we are over pi$$ing on good people because they are not perfect.”
“Been Realistic?”
George HW’s soft conservatism gave us 8 years of Clinton and George W’s compassionate conservatism gave us 8 years of Obama.
You don’t realize the long-lasting effect of “getting along” or distortions of conservatism has on America.
W tried this amnesty crap and now Rubio is out there trying to hide the fact he did too.
No, Rubio is not the one we need leading the charge of conservatives, as it is apparent that he is more comfortable leading racial politics instead like Al Sharpton.
I am ok with him staying in the Senate for awhile longer to see if he improves. I also would like Ted Cruz to hang around and improve the Senate too rather than a WH run. We need people in the Senate like that to counter the old liberal guard(both Dem and GOP).
Not eligibile, no natural born citizen.
Parents not citizens when Rubiobio was born.
Aside from this one issue he is straight conservative. We need to back the most conservative candidate who can win. I think that is Cruz but if Perry or Rubio gets it I will back them. I refuse to back any Bush.
Amnesty is a whole lot of issues, not just one. It will bankrupt this country, give us a super-majority leftist voting bloc, give us millions of people who have no loyalty to this country.
Whether socially or fiscally the idea is a full-on disaster.
To say it’s just “one issue” is to ignore that it is one gigantic issue.
or the dopes saying we need to vote for the RINO for the good of our country instead of NOT voting for the RINO to teach them a freaking lesson to not run RINOs.
Well good luck with that. If you want to back a person that is so fundamentally untrustworthy on such an important issue as our very borders to do the right thing anywhere else, that’s your call. But do not be shocked when the alligator doesn’t eat you last.
As to the ‘that can win’ bit which led us to where we are today...sometimes losing is better than winning with a guy more helpful to the enemy than to you. Alexander Hamilton had some wise words on that subject. It baffles me why some people think they know better than the actual people that founded the country. Either he was wrong or the ‘that can win’ folks are. It cannot be both. And to date, when presented with that, not one has a reason to say he was wrong.
Sure there is the “Dems are evil” excuse but Hamilton had the British burning his countrymen alive when he said it. I think that was a more dire circumstance than evil Democrats. Yet he still preferred an enemy in their own camp than his.
And like it or not, one guy that wants amnesty and another that opposes fences, usurps parental rights and trys building superhighways into America from Drug Central are most assuredly the enemy. Dunno what else one can objectively call such people. They surely are not acting in accordance with the Constitution, much less the consent of the governed.
Perry is as big a RINO as Romeny. Remember when they both decided they would be the front runners in the early debates and they had a wake up call... It was good to see some of the other more conservatives taking them to task.
Are you kidding me, you are one of these RINO idiots? You still haven’t learned after 2 losing campaigns that you don’t elect or support a RINO. What the freak is wron g with you? This is FREE REPUBLIC, not the Log Cabin Republicans or the Grand Olde Party Clan.
