A Hampton man was arrested by police in connection to a shooting in the parking lot of a Waffle House early Saturday morning. Officers responded to a call just after 3 a.m. to the restaurant at 1811 West Mercury Boulevard, where the victim and the suspected shooter had left the scene, according to a news release from the Hampton Police Division.
According to a police investigation, the suspected shooter shot the victim during an argument, and an armed security guard working at Waffle House, who saw the incident, confronted the shooter, the release stated. The shooter pointed his firearm at the guard, who fired back once. The shooter, who was not struck, then left in a dark sedan, police said.
Not long police received the report of the shooting, they found a black Lexus matching the description of the suspects vehicle. Officers made a stop of the car in the 1100 block of West Mercury Boulevard and took Nicholas Jermaine Washington, 32, of the first block of West Virginia Avenue, into custody, police said. Washington was charged with one count each of malicious wounding, shooting into an occupied dwelling discharge of a firearm in a public place and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, as well as three counts of use of a firearm in commission of a felony, the release stated.

Why post random crime stories? How is this political?
Maybe it is open for business. Any kind.
FTA: “...they found a black Lexus matching the description of the suspects vehicle.”
They can describe the car in print but not the suspect? Close?
Waffle House ping
i have only gone a times since i have been living in the South... went to one in Georgia, and one Fayetteville, NC... does this article mention which state this happened in? i did notice when reading the article...
To be fair, there is a pic of the suspect at the source.
Waffle House has armed security.....??????
Virginia
Hampton and Newport News VA average about 5 shootings/wk. Yesterday, the first 5 news stories were shootings in the Tidewater VA area.
Apparently so these days. About 15 years or so ago, I would frequently travel to Charlotte, NC on business. There was a Waffle House close to the motel that the company would put us up at. No security, the food was good and cheap too.
bttt
I know, that is why I used the phrase: “in print” ... to cover the times that a picture is not provided.
I’ve been to that particular Waffle House... the front parking lot is chain-link fenced in, with a singular exit to Mercury Blvd. It’s a boon to potential muggers and other criminals.
Nothing comes good from the parking lot of an Awful Waffle at 3am on a Saturday unless it’s to find that 2am Barr princess you missed at last call.
Hampton, VA. This particular restaurant is located right off I-64.
I love Waffle House. But go to one at 3:00am? No way.
Ditto.
Waffle House’s attract a rather . . . uummmmmm . . . interesting clientele.
Denny’s and Waffle House are supposed to have shootings after midnight. It’s part of the menu.
“I’ll have two eggs over easy, sausage, toast and bust a cap on somebody”.
It’s like momma drama at the Chuck E Cheese. You go to see that.
