I do not know for certain but think she was a paid employee of the VFW; not that it makes any difference.

When I came home I had some follow up work at the VA.
IIRC they had VFW & American Legion ‘helpers’.

Fortunately I found gainful employment with superb ($$$) insurance.
Not that my experience with the VA was bad; They were busy, busy, busy! 1970,1971 and many needed it far more then I.

When I enlisted in the late 60’s the recruiter told me one of the best things I could would be to enlist because I would then be eligible for free health care for the rest of my life. Some time ago while unemployed I checked on the “free” health care I was eligible for, it wasn't free, it was $50 copay every time you visit. I fortunately was not sick, but the lies I heard certainly sickened me.
