Where would he get the alcohol? Pretty rare stuff in Afghanistan.

Actually it's not all that hard to make....but who knows, he might have been drinking the rubbing alcohol or something - that would actually make more sense if he decided to "walk the earth" in a war zone. May have gone crazy from the stuff. That's not an excuse by any means though.
