The subs have been excellent sedatives so far.

I clicked on Rush during lunch at work, and literally after 5 words or less from Mark Bolling, I was yawning

Did you decorate anyone’s graves in particular? People you knew?

Mud saved his life.

Probably a mortar shell or something went off near him when it was muddy, and the wet mud absorbed most of the blast and the shrapnel. (Or maybe it didn’t go off because the ground was too soft and the impact not hard enough to set it off.)

I had 4 uncles who flew in B-17s over Germany, and all made it back, wounded. They’ve all been gone since early-90s. Then we stayed after D-day Ceremonies to decorate other Vets’ graves, who Dad knew from York area, with Peonies from Dad’s home gardens. One of them was in D-Day, European campaign and Battle of The Bulge w/ Dad (Patton’s 3rd Corps Combat Engineers), and was killed in same Bastogne battle when Dad was shot by nazi sniper.

We also decorated all uncles’/aunts’/cousins’ graves in same cemeteries. Peony shrubs are completely de-flowered now. Long, somber day.

He was a platoon sgt, and during one of the many battles he was in during European Campaign and Battle of The Bulge, was carrying wounded off the field under fire, and bullet went in his back and came out his left arm. Missed lung, heart and bones, but bad enough to get him sent to England and back to US.

His license plate on the (now wrecked) Jeep, since transferred to new car:

Glad to hear it. She’s got no match, so forget it. Heh. I’m still having minor memory problems from the anesthesia, but it’s coming around. I don’t even remember the 5hr drive back from NYC... scary.

I’ve seen the 4 holes’ scars on Dad’s back, chest, and left arm’s entry/exit wounds. Make my hip’s bullet wound scar disappear, in comparison.

I was calling, and even trying speed-dial, but all I was getting were busy signals. Lines are tied-up.
