Bergdahl, released Saturday by the Taliban after being held captive nearly five years, will reunite with his family in San Antonio when he is flown here to be evaluated at the San Antonio Military Medical Center.
Bergdahl, 28, will begin a reintegration process at the sprawling medical center, which has treated thousands of troops injured in Iraq and Afghanistan and has experience with former POWs.
...
He'll undergo more medical exams and structured debriefings at Landstuhl, and likely remain there three days before coming to San Antonio to be with family, receive additional care and face final debriefings.

“At the end of brief event, the soldiers father, Bob Bergdahl, recited the most frequent phrase in the Koran Bismillah ir-Rahman ir-Rahim which means In the name of Allah, most Gracious, most Compassionate.
After Bergdahl finished his statement and his praise for Allah, Obama hugged him.”
Agree, good idea.
I read the whole article and watched the video, and didn’t hear any praise of Allah.
I’ll take your word for it. I don’t speak Pashto. I don’t find it objectionable for Bowe or his dad to speak it. If I were held captive by Pashto speaking people for five years I suppose I’d speak it, too. I hear (who knows if it’s true) that it’s Bowe’s main language now. Who knows what sort of brain washing or torture he endured? I don’t. If I heard my POW son was speaking only Pashto I’d try to learn it, too.
I’m not excusing praising Allah if that’s what happened. But Bergdahl Sr is or at least was a member of a Bible believing church for decades, so it’s a recent turn if it’s a turn at all.
I don’t thing Bergdahl Sr. is a Muslim. My take is that he has been so fixated on getting Bowe released that his is a case of “Stockholm syndrome” by proxy.
I don’t know for sure, but if my kid made a choice to abandon his post and it cost the lives of others, it would sure be tempting to find comfort in rationalizing it away, especially if I had no military background.
Yeah, I can see why somebody would go there. Sad, really.
But that doesn’t make it right.
“I dont know for sure, but if my kid made a choice to abandon his post and it cost the lives of others, it would sure be tempting to find comfort in rationalizing it away, especially if I had no military background.”
I could see that. It would be hard to admit your son was a traitor or went crazy or similar.
I don’t know that Bowe is a traitor OR that he went crazy, just pointing out possible scenarios.
They are not my words...you asked for a link. I supplied one of many that are reporting it.
His family won’t be able to speak to them in English
Some “high ranking” Dept. of Def. person has already said he doesn’t think anything will come of the defection thing, it’s been 5 years, isn’t that enough?
Disgusting! The man walked away from his unit, his commitment and his country. Whatever he got, he deserved.
I can assure you from close second hand knowledge that Bowes father is not a Muslim.
Does anyone here believe the news media will apologize for sucking up the Obama regime’s lies about this guy? /rhetorical
Bowe B. was a deserter who sought out terriorists that he could aid. That aid led to a half dozen or so US military personnel being killed while looking for him. He was taken in by a group based in Pakistan and taken there; not by the Taliban in Afghanistan. ...He should be tried under the UCMJ as a deserter and traitor.
His father is a convert to Islam and praised Bowe for helping the Afghanistans.
Sorry - I didn’t read far enough and saw that you answered most of my questions due to others having posed them.
From your own home page on Free Republic:
“Mr. Madison, what you’ve just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul. source?
I guess you are taking your own advice.
Call the scum what he is, a GD deserter NOT a POW.
I think I understand why. The father taught himself phrases over the past couple of years. From the NY Post:
“Bergdahl is speaking in what appears to be Pashto, said his dad, Bob Bergdahl. It was not clear whether his son can still even speak English, Bob said.
When the father spoke to his son for the first time in five worried years it was to say both in Pashto and English, I am your father, Bowe.”

When Bergdahl got on the helicopter, he wrote a two-letter question, “SF?” (Meaning “Special Forces?”) One of the guys answered, “Yes, we’ve been looking for you for a long time.” Bergdahl broke down and cried.
He speaks and understands English. He might be having trouble remembering to speak it - as did Amanda Knox when she first left Italy - but he can communicate in English.
He said Ameen which is how muslims say Amen. That’s all the proof I need. I would never say Ameen in a million years.
I wouldn’t do a Muslim amen, either, and I’m not defending, except if maybe he was unaware or was coached to do it to keep a fragile son from imploding or whatever, which I know is still a stretch.
Yet what else are we to believe?
That a man, the head of a family of four, who has been a member in good standing for decades of Bible believing conservative churches, committed to the point of home schooling his kids etc., with no history of Islam or whatever, has suddenly turned? It is possible but not very believable, either.
