Last month, I ate a strawberry. The taste exploded in my mouth as my throat was bathed in rich juices. The meat of the berry was soft and succulent.
I was in France.
Last week, I ate another strawberry. There was a slight reddish flavour, which combatted the petroleum essence of the packaging. The meat of the berry was corky, dry and flavourless.
I was in Canada.

I long ago noticed tha the fruit (particularly strawberries and apples) which are on sale are the varieties which are durable and ship well. Taste is a minor consideration. That's exactly it.

America is a big country, with big appetites and the end result of serving hamburgers the size of your head is a phenomenon called OBESITY. Man vs Food. Paging Adam Rich. I wonder what they would think of that show in France?

Sometimes the market rebels. Breeding for looks and storage rather than flavor nearly killed the Red "Delicious" apple. When I'm buying apples I can't imagine buying a Red Delicious even if if was far cheaper than other varieties.

Hilarious.
Enjoying fresh ingredients in a tasty dish and describing them accurately does not make one metrosexual. But don’t worry if you go, you can still go to McDonalds for your food.
McDonalds is present in Caen, but I saw none in Bayeux.

In NYC?
My original point was more about the WASP culture of the United States - the people who founded the country. I certainly didn’t mean to imply that the immigrants from Europe didn’t bring delicious food to these shores.

You are so right. I’m old enough to remember when there was only one size. It was small, but so rich you really didn’t want more.

Carob bars! The absolute hell of my childhood with a health nut mother. Shudders!

Just wait ,you’ll hit a certain age, food starts to loose it’s flavor(sense of taste)you loose your appetite and you’ll naturally thin down.
Mom used to be 140lbs and at 98 yrs ,she weighs about 88lbs.

What man talks like this? Foodies do. Chefs do. I am a foodie. I am a chef (well, baker actually). I am a man and NOT gay.
Deal.

Oh, I can't stand that stuff. NYers obsession with “queuing” is so outdated and phony. And when can we all stop loving Brooklyn? Boring!
