Sorry to learn of your daughter’s woes, glad she is getting away from him, and I know you will do a great job helping her along the way.

The fact is, no interaction, or set of interactions with an active alcoholic can result in anything other than COMPLETE DISASTER. That’s a “bottle” you are trying to reason with, an “it,” not a person.

Some good books on co-dependency will help your daughter a lot. Also, just some basic info on borderline personalities and how they can disrupt us is really good. The little book “I Hate You, Don’t Leave Me” is excellent. And, if I recall, there is a book called Co-Dependent No More (it’s written by the ex-wife of an alcoholic) that will absolutely help her.

Knowledge and information are most important to people who have experienced a marriage like your daughters has. It can make ALL the difference.

The classic bible of co dependency is Co Dependent No More by Melody Beattie..I would also recommend for your daughter’s support the 12 Step Group for families of an alcoholic “Al Anon”. It is annonymous, free and very helpful.
