WASHINGTON (AP) -- The only American soldier held prisoner in Afghanistan has been freed and is back in U.S. custody after nearly five years of captivity, U.S. officials said Saturday.
The officials said the Taliban agreed to turn over Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl in exchange for the release of five Afghan detainees from the U.S. prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. The transfers happened after a week of intense negotiations mediated by

I see that point. The question is...how many more Americans will die with five terrorist Taliban leaders back out on the street.
Yes Judy you have it right , I heard the same, that he had foprgotten English. But I swear what the father said was Hebrew. Is the POW Jewish?
Weird stuff happening. Or is it a version of Stockholm Syndrome?
Candor7...In Canada too.
Looks like an old hippie...I mean c’mon, those days are over( except for the administration now.ha).
On Obama’s PLAN fulltime....Hurt America and Americans and risk nothing to stop HIM. I am able to fulfill my socialist/communist agenda fully because America will NOT impeach me. This guy knows exactly what he is doing and how to do it. The actions he takes are not watched closely by anyone. Watch the coal industry and cap and trade. Congress voted against both, and the President executive ordered to pass both.
And 0 likes deserters. Next a hero’s welcome and invitation to the White House, instead of 5 years at hard labor for desertion. Read the letters he wrote home to his parents. He deserted. But O could care. He’ll be forgiven by the liberals because he just got “scared and confused” in that mean old war start by Bush.
That’s how it looks to me too. This is about negotiating a deal with the Taliban as part of setting things up for the pullout in 2016. In fact, it’s mentioned in the article that this was a consideration. My guess is that it was the MAIN consideration by far. There’s no way they’d trade the Taliban high command for some deserter soldier without a bigger reason.
Also, he’d been held since 2009. Why the big rush all the sudden? The article says the administration broke the law requiring 30 day notice because it had learned that Berghdal’s health was failing. My guess is that this is either 1) a thin BS excuse to justify action on a now-or-never type deal, or 2) they really were worried that he might die thereby spoiling the opportunity.
Dad praising Allah in Arabic and tweeting the Taliban about working to free all the Gitmo prisoners and getting repayment from God for the Children of Afghanistan.
His father is an anti American, terrorist loving idiot. He said his goal is to free all gitmo prisoners.
It’s “basically” illegal or it’s illegal?
Source?
I live in Idaho. I am happy for this man’s family and will not say anything against that specifically.
However, I am appalled by what the Obama administration did to secure his release.
This is insane. He has negotiated with terrorists and freed five of the most deadly captives we had. Several of them have American blood on their hands and the others our allies. They will go back to planning and killing more Americans. They should have been summarily executed long ago after we got all of the intelligence we could out of them.
It is a travesty and will lead to many more American deaths...and what will we tell the parents, family, and friends of those killed?
It will open the door for other groups, and the Taliban to take more Americans so they can get more of their top people back. What will we tell the parents, family and friends of those taken?
Again, the Obama administration has cavalierly violated US law to make this happen.
It sickens me to think what this will lead to.
We already know the Taliban is viewing it (and understandably so) as a great victory. They will use it to recruit more killers.
As to the Sgt. himself...irrespective of the amount of time he was held...the circumstances of his going missing need to be investigated. He had written to his parents telling them he had lost faith with the mission, was ashamed to be an American, and was thinking of going AWOL.
Did he? We do not know...but it needs to be understood just the same.
I could look up a half dozen source but off hand I just heard it on Bill Bennett a few minutes ago, maybe you can take it up with him.Try google or one of the the other search engines for your questions.

BREAKING NEWS! I just turned on my radio to hear the tail end of our local talk show guy (Michael Berry - Houston) interviewing a guy named Cody.
Apparently he has really negative information about Bergdahl, because he served with the guy. Cody says his fellow soldiers are also willing to go public to back him up. They say the guy was strange.
This started on Twitter and has gone viral. Stand by for it to explode in Obama’s face! Soon!
A friend asked me a good question. Why would the father be Gung Ho about freeing more prisoners when his own son was held by the same people for 5 years??
Maybe you could have said you heard it on bill Bennet and leave the smart assery out, k?
For this deserter I wouldn't have wasted my spit on the ground...
